We have arrived at the point on the hockey calendar where activity has begun to slow down considerably. After a frantic few weeks during the Draft and the start of free agency, NHL general managers and their staff have headed home, or out to the cottage to spend time with their families. Meanwhile, the Montreal Canadiens have much work to do before Labo(u)r Day.
Jeff Gorton and Kent Hughes made two significant trades to advance the Habs’ rebuild. They added Noah Dobson and Zack Bolduc while using the free agent market to sign depth pieces like goaltender Kaapo Kahkonen and forward Sammy Blais.
Typically, towards the end of July and beginning of August, there is a lull. However, in Montreal, there is a strong feeling that the general manager has unfinished business to complete before training camp opens. And a substantial amount of smoke coming from reliable sources means that this is much more than just blind speculation.
In this week’s episode of the Canadiens Connection podcast, we examine possible internal and external options to solve the issue of the Montreal’s second line center for this upcoming season and for the future.
