Blues Give Lucic Last Shot With PTO

Milan Lucic is getting another chance in the NHL, this time with the St. Louis Blues. The team announced they’ve signed the veteran forward to a professional tryout (PTO), giving him the opportunity to prove he can still contribute at the highest level. Known for his physical play, leadership, and Stanley Cup experience, Lucic adds a mix of toughness and grit to the Blues’ training camp roster.

While a PTO doesn’t guarantee a contract, it provides both sides with a low-risk look at whether the fit makes sense as the Blues aim to build depth and balance heading into the new season.

Bottom line: Only a minority of PTO arrangements end with the player being signed to a contract for the season. Lucic faces an uphill battle. That said, it doesn’t hurt to take a look. As for the player, a PTO is really a leaguewide audition. He’s free to sign anywhere if there’s a contract offer.

Lucic was once one of the NHL’s most feared players among opponents. He’s clearly slowed down over the years. Nevertheless, there still could be enough left to find an NHL role. The Blues get first dibs of watching him on a daily basis. For Lucic, it’s now or never.

Not sure what he’ll bring to the Blues. He was basically done in Calgary, even before going to Boston.
