Looking at this new site, it has possibilities. One thing that might improve it would be a larger font for easier reading. Also, it’s difficult uploading avatars and links. Going through a 3rd party website to upload avatars could be difficult for some of the less computer inclined individuals. On the hockey side, maybe a score ticker at the top so as to keep up on the out of town scores as you participate online. If anything else comes to mind, I’ll try to remember to bring it to you and the rest of the administrators who run the website.

Good suggestions. Thank you! Specific to the font size, you can enlarge it from the accessibility menu.

VZ, if you click the accessibility menu on the left side of the site (the red circle with the stick figure person), you can enlarge the text size.

Much better with the Fonts enlargement. One other item; when you go to the forums page, instead of the name of the team, maybe the team logo instead.

Quick question – how do I set up my avatar? I set up an account at Gravatar, but can’t figure out how to connect the two.

Thanks for posting this thread – I’ve got a few.

Like a certain other website that arbitrarily bans people, you should be able to easily quote other posts – and have the post and the poster automatically populate in your reply.

You need to put some sort of restriction on the size of images – I accidentally posted a huge picture in the Leafs forum. Forgive me – I left it up so show you as an example. It will get very messy if people start posting huge images.

“Thumbs up and thumbs down” buttons on individual posts would be helpful (like Reddit). It really helps to identify people who aren’t there for constructive debate – they are just there to troll.

And an “ignore” button that makes certain posters’ posts invisible to individual users.

      Thanks!

I’m a big fan of “blocking” versus “muting” other users.

Muting a troll allows that troll to continue reading the target’s posts and reply to them where the entire forum can read them, but the person who muted can’t see any of it.

Blocking prevents trolls from ever seeing their target’s posts and prevents them from continuing to harass and also does everything else that muting does.

      Block > Mute

Of course, in a well-moderated forum, neither function is truly needed.

Mike and I had our update meeting with the developer yesterday. Suggested adding quote responses. Didn’t think about”ignore” button, thumbs up/down but it’s something I think we should discuss internally. We’re done with Phase 1 (building a site with basic functionality) and moving into Phase 2 (some additions, some tweaks for user experience quality). I’ll add your suggestions to our next discussion topics.

I know I mentioned it before and Mike replied but adding here just in case you have an ongoing list – the ability to send private messages to other users might be helpful. Ideally one that quotes the prior conversation because it’s hard to remember what you said by the time your reply to a reply of a reply…..lol

      Oh and emojis perhaps?

Sorry jus thought of a few more from an old discussion board I was on that I liked personally,

      1. It used to show when you logged on the # of active members (and list their names) which was cool to be able to see how busy (or slow) the board was.
      2. Used to show on the main blog page latest posts with a link to them since you last were there
      3. You could filter and just view what had been posted since you last visited which was nice also.

      Love the site so far.

      Some requests :

      1) DM’s – private messages

      2) Report/Flag post button

      3) The accessibility button to increase font sizes doesn’t appear on the mobile version (Android, Brave browser).

      4) Maybe reach out to Michael Stuart (ex-HB) to be a Tampa blogger here.

      5) Quote replies automatically populated (mentioned previously by another poster).

      6) Live scoreboard ticker?

      7) Block user (or mute)

      8) Punny user titles based on post count or longevity.

That’s all I can think of at the moment.

      Keep up the good work.

you click reply. but that part isn’t up and running yet. but when it is up and running that’s how we’re supposed to do it.

for now i think people are just copying and pasting what they’re replying to in their posts.

      Need Emojis.

It would also be nice to have a list of threads you’ve posted in somewhere so that you can keep on top of topics without having to dig in to find threads. That other place had a pretty perfect setup, just copy that, lol.

I’d try copy what the other one has for list of threads posted in on the side right, as well as what HF does with notifications at the top right when you’ve been quoted.

If possible, if not at the very least one or the other.

      Bill,
Do you have any interest in the Habs blogger from the other site? He doesn’t get to blog often but he has a following so it should bring a lot of posters over.

His name is Hugo Brossoit. He was just one of us for years but then when that site got all nuts he ended up blogging for the Habs and we all like his blogs.

I asked him and he said he is interested. It doesn’t seem like the bloggers get treated very well over there. His last 2 blogs were suddenly deleted yesterday with no reason given. I’m sure it was for something in the comments because his blogs are pretty benign.

Best wishes Bill and others, for the new site. It looks promising. I have a couple of questions.

      1. Do you anticipate having a Chicago writer soon? I am looking forward to some Blackhawks content.

2.In the “Who We Are” section of the home page, it’s mentioned that eventually you’ll have salary cap data. Is it too much to expect a Capfriendly like format, or will you have something more basic?

      Thanks for the feedback.

    • #7310
      Bill Meltzer

      1) Looking for a good recommendation for a Blackhawks writer. I had a lead before we launched but his plate was full. I’d like to get someone in place (at latest) by the end the summer. I hope sooner.

      2) I’d love to have a super detailed cap section. It’ll probably more basic like Cap Central from HB but as we grow, I’d love to do something more detailed and sophisticated in terms of player-by-player data.

If you’re looking for a mature plugin/add-on for the BB Press forum you’re using to add quote replies, have a look at: https://wordpress.org/plugins/gd-bbpress-tools/

Been around for years. Haven’t used it in probably 5-6 years, but it worked pretty well back then.

i can’t vouch for the sanity of this guy because i only really know him from my gimmick of thanking him for his hard work after his posts, but there’s that hollywood2 guy that seems pretty dedicated to writing about… well, i actually don’t know what leagues those are that he’s writing about but i’m sure you do and he seems really into it. not sure if that would be a fit here or not.

Hey guys. Having an issue on mobile where I sign in, then as soon as I click to get anywhere else on the site I’m logged out and have to sign back in again, which boots me to the home page. Stops me from commenting on the forums. Any idea what’s going on?

Hello @bill-meltzer, I just noticed there was a feedback thread and thought I might as well chime in with a couple of suggestions, which may have already been mentioned:

      -a working “reply” function
      -an ignore/mute option

other than that, the website is a bit finicky at times but with some tweaking it should be fine, solid start imho.

      thanks!

thank you for adding the plug-in, Bill.

not sure if you received any feedback on it yet but there seems to be an issue with the number of times you can quote and continue the same conversation with someone, it always includes all of the previous quotes, and I think after 3 the quote option simply does nothing when you click submit… ideally it should just show the post you’re directly quoting, not all the previous ones, and for an unlimited number of times (my humble opinion).

also, the “reply” option is still there, but does it do anything?

Part or all of a previous reply can be taken out with quoting it. The reply option takes you to the reply section but doesn’t quote it. It’s functional but still a little clunky.

      thanks for the quick reply.

I think it would be preferable if posters didn’t have to manually remove it every time, and also if they could quote a conversation as many times as they want because the glitch is kind of annoying, but perhaps that’s just me.

I’m having major issues on my mobile device regardless of which browser I use.

It simply won’t let me log in at all but no issues doing so on my laptop.

This is fairly recent (last 2 weeks or so), before it would log in but log me out if I clicked a link at all to any forum, thread etc. but if I refreshed the page when logged out it would then show me as logged in.

Now I just can’t even log in.

      Weird.

I’m aware that people were having issues creating/replying to threads. I had the problem as well. I think FZP Digital got the problem fixed.

In regard to obtrusive Google Ads, that should not be a problem after today. Our main ad source should be up and running later today, and those are designed to well placed but unobtrusive.

To all: When a problem arise, please keep letting us know. Be as specific as possible so FZP can replicate whatever the issue is and correct it ASAP.

      Good morning Bill,

Something I noticed about the forum comments is that you can’t quote a comment that is already a quote.

For example I post a thought. Member XYZ quotes it in his reply. I want to quote XYZ to keep the conversation going, but if I use quote and write my comment, it doesn’t post in the forum.

What I do is create a new comment, copy and paste XYZ’s comment, italicize it, and then write my thoughts. Then it posts. To me, it’s a complicated work around. Maybe I’m doing something wrong?

I could understand not having a lengthy string of comments and all the quotes containing the whole conversation being posted. Maybe the forum comments section could be modified to allow additional responses by just showing the previous comment. Sort of like the way the old HB did it. Thanks.
