ParticipantI’m glad the cap is going up, i think it’ll make it that much harder for teams to poach any of our young players we want to keep,
I’m not worried about Bedard, more so the year after with both Arty and Rinzel being due new contracts, and with the cap going up lot less to worry about.

ParticipantKD has put them in such a good spot that on the off chance that McDavid or Kaprizov wanted to play for Chicago because they like what they see and enjoy the city life, he could manage it easily.

Agree with this completely. We are primed for another Hossa-type acquisition within the next year or two. That will be when the team really takes off.

And that works the other way, too. Hawks would find it difficult to poach someone else’s young player.
Also I think with the rising cap, there will be fewer free agents on the market in coming years since teams will be able to pay their own players. Yes there may will be big name exceptions like Karpitsov and McD to be had if they really want out of their current situation. But then many teams will have boatloads of money if they manage their spending well in coming years.

Yes, but to balance this, in 2 or 3 seasons there could very well be teams that age or fail out of their Cup window(s).
Instead of poaching due to cap constraints, they might be able to get a very good / great player(s) from a team doing a partial rebuild or even a tear down. -
