Flyers Training Camp: Day 2 Recap
The second day of camp at the FTC in Voorhees saw mostly the same two primary groups on the ice as Day One. The most notable exception was Karsen Dorwart. The young forward is day-to-day with an upper body injury sustained the previous day.
Day Two had two changes from Thursday. The team did its first power play work of camp under the auspices of assistant coaches Yogi Svejkovsky and Jay Varady. Additionally, the Flyers players skated laps (but not nearly as many as in a bag skate) during a portion of the practice. Unlike a John Tortorella “rope day”gauntlets of 24 laps (8X3), there were casualties laying on the floor at the end.
That happened with former Flyers defense prospect Mason Millman in 2023. He laid on the floor by the bench for about 15 minutes. Zayde Wisdom wasn’t in quite as much distress that day, but he wasn’t far behind. Tortorella always said that he didn’t care what anyone’s finishing times were but he expected everyone to finish. Nicolas Deslauriers came in last all three camps that Tortorella ran in Philly. However, he finished the gauntlet every year. Wisdom, meanwhile, improved in years two and three. Tortorella didn’t even have to scream in his face to exhort him to keep going.
At any rate, the most memorable facet of the Day Two skating portion in 2025 was the absence of anything memorable. Instead, the images that left impressions were more standard hockey things. Observed noted rookie hopeful Jett Luchanko flying down the ice on line rushes. His groin seemed fine. Rather than have an assistant coach do it, head coach Rick Tocchet fed passes for Matvei Michkov to one-time into the net .

The Flyers Training Center will be abuzz with activity on Saturday. Most notable, there will be a scrimmage on the main rink. Gritty will also be on hand. There will be giveaways and prizes, in addition to the Flyers Merch Truck. The events run from 10 a.m. EDT to 1:30 p.m. EDT.
Attendance is free. However, parking spaces fill up quickly.
Luchanko Update
Flyers 2024 first-round pick Jett Luchanko spoke to the media on Friday. He said that he sat out rookie camp strictly as a precaution after going through a nagging groin issue over the summer. He was able to stick to his off-ice training plan throughout the summer but he got a late start on his summertime skating regimen. That’s also why Flyers kept him out of Development Camp and the player turned down a Team Canada roster spot at the World Junior Summer Showcase.
Luchanko said he feels fine now. Across the board, camp observers believe that Luchanko skated very well — he’s one of the fastest-skating prospects across the entire NHL — on Day One and Day Two of NHL camp.
Ersson: It’s go time
Flyers goaltender Samuel Ersson did his first media availability of training camp on Friday. The Swedish netminder said that he found his form last season over the latter part of the campaign. Meanwhile, he put in a lot of work over the summer to minimize the chance of recurring injury issues from a season ago.
“It’s go time,” Ersson said.
Ersson said that he’s enjoyed getting to know new teammate Dan Vladar. The two are the prospective NHL goalie tandem this season. Ersson said that he expects the two will push one another for playing time in a positive way. They’ll be supportive of one another regardless of which netminder is playing on a given night.
Flyers Daily: One-on-one with York & Zegras
Trevor Zegras joined Flyers Daily host Jason Myretus to discuss his summer preparations, his longtime friendships with Cam York and Jamie Drysdale and more. Jason also sat down with Cam York. The player discussed his offensive and all-around games. He has a strong desire to get back on the power play now that there’s a new coaching staff. York also talked about why felt his new five-year contract benefits him as well as the Flyers’ organization.
