Shoresy “Nicest Guy in Hockey” Headlines BKFC Ice Wars

Regular “Shoresy” watchers are familiar with Charlottetown Reds captain Gord Gallant. On the cult favorite hockey show, “Gorgeous” Gord is known as “the nicest guy in hockey”. The recurring TV character is played by “Gorgeous” Nick Laporte, a veteran real-life minor league hockey tough guy and BKFC Ice Wars combatant.

Ice Wars has its share of colorful and charismatic fights. Most have played hockey at junior/collegiate and/or semipro/minor league pro levels, although none so far are NHL Alumni. Thus far, the Laporte brothers — Nick and Will — have been the biggest breakout names.

On October 10, Nick Laporte (1-0) will take on Sébastien Lafferière (6-foot-2, 260 pounds), a still-active LNAH rugged winger. Nick, meanwhile, is a supremely conditioned athlete who scored a quick knockout in his first Ice Wars bouts. Will (2-0) also fights on the same card.

The upcoming Sunrise event, dubbed “bare knuckle brawls”, features two key differences from previous events: 1) Rather than wearing MMA-style gloves, the battled are bare-knuckled (as per regular hockey fights). 2) The synthetic ice surface from the “Ice Box” will give way to the hockey arena’s natural ice surface.
