Red Wings Are on Fire with 4th Win

The Red Wings made a change in net, and John Gibson was ready for the challenge. Gibson was pulled in his first outing, and the team rolled to three straight wins. Cam Talbot has been outstanding, and John Gibson was able to match those performances in his return.

Gibson faced 32 shots, and 20 of those came in the third period against Tampa Bay. His return saw an impressive, as well as much needed .969 save percentage. Concern about Gibson’s performance have, consequently, been calmed quite a bit.

Axel Sandin-Pellikka scores his first goal

Rookie defenseman Axel Sandin-Pellikka continues to impress, and was rewarded for his work. ASP scored his first NHL goal, and it was an impressive sequence. The young defenseman has an uncanny ability to disguise his shot, notwithstanding a lucky bounce as well.

Dylan Larkin assisted on that goal, furthermore he even retrieved the puck from the net. Larkin would go on to score the game winner, and ASP was on the ice during that sequence. Emmitt Finnie was on the ice in overtime as well, and the kids seem to have secured their roster spots.

Detroit’s start is impressive, and sorely needed

Detroit is only five games into the season, however the pressure has been immense. The opening loss brought a lot of criticism, but the response has been incredible. Detroit has won four straight games, and all of them in the Atlantic Division.

As impressive as the start has been, unfortunately the play tonight was a bit concerning. Tampa Bay has been struggling, but the Oilers are coming to town next. The team will have to be much stronger against the powerhouse from Edmonton, and even then it will be tough. For now there are a lot of good things happening, and the atmosphere in Detroit is electric.

The start of the game seems to have been good (10 shots to 0) and Gibson at last gives some confidence to the team.
You can see genuine happiness for ASP scoring his first, a lot of good signs for a winning team who will need to go on like this. You may have all the talent you want (they have), you will need to keep (or get it back quickly) confidence to stay consistent for a long season !
We will know more after the Christmas break or even the all star game, this will be the real test and of course, IF they go to playoffs, they will have to be rested and not injured.
But for now, they are doing the work and it is really enjoyable for every fan.

I just want to mention the ASP goal. Finnie seemed almost as happy as ASPgetting the goal. I know everyone was happy that he got his first one. Finnie seemed so happy for that. I think that kind of emotion is something this team really needs. I love the energy. I love the fun they’re having. I love the fun I’m having watching this team grow. I really like where the team is going.

Gibson was impressive. Nice to see him playing lights out. This has calmed my concerns for now. If he can play at this level consistently the Wings will have something they haven’t had in about many years… solid, strong goaltending. And what a difference it makes. The kids look great. You can see the energy and talent they bring to the ice. There’s no substitute for it. If there are any mmore injuries you gotta think Carter Mazur will get the first call-up if they need a forward from GR. Lombardi has been really good too. Griffins are 3-0 now… nice start to the season.

Seeing the other two fresh faces in Bernard-docker (another young player) and Appleton has made this team deeper, younger, and better defensively. The much improved team defense is what’s really making the difference maker. The PK has been really solid so far as well. Those deflating goals from year’s past have not been happening thus far.

Larkin, Kane, and Debrincat are all playing great. Mo is solid as always and has shown signs of continued growth. But really what is making the games so fun to watch is the kids. They play with such energy and enthusiasm, and you can see it rubbing off on the rest of the team. Charot is playing much better this year and I think it’s because of the kids. Gibson tracks the puck very well and has excellent rebound control. He can calm a game down when his team gets scrambling defensively.

I think my favorite player so far this season has been Edvinson. He has looked so steady and has given ASP the confidence to play the way he has and not be scared of making mistakes. Chelios used to have that effect on young players, but Eddie is doing this while still a kid himself.

The only player that is frustrating me on a consistent basis is Compher. Plays seem to die when he gets the puck. Hopefully he can get going.
