I agree. Have told FZP Digital we specifically need

    1) Page breaks for easier navigation to most recent comments.
    2) Eliminate need for moderator approval of all blog comments (that’s now been done)
    3) Easier reply system with automatic quotes for all comments so people know you are replying to.

Thanks Bill! Exciting season, a lot of ups-and-downs for sure, but in the end they snuck into the playoffs both by playing well down the stretch and by a few other teams faltering. Either way, they’re in. And holy Bonkers, kid plays one game and he gets two points including his first NHL goal.

I’m not sure why this thread doesn’t have a page break like all the rest? It’s a pain in the butt to have to scroll all the way to the bottom to read or comment on it. Anyway, well, they did it, this rag-tag group made the playoffs. Martone was huge in the push for the playoffs, that kid is something special but not in a flashy way, he’s just a good solid young player.

Be like San Jose and or Chicago, draft a lot and the winning will follow…eventually.

Well now that CLB has stuck the dagger in on a second time on the Flyers slim playoff aspirations, the hope is no major injuries the rest of the way. If DiMarco is correct and the untouchable assets are Michkov, Martone, and Foerster then what is the excuse not to see significant roster turnover over the summer. Now the second season in the last 3 where the following core: Ersson, Sanheim, York, Drysdale, Seeler, TK, Couts, Tippett, Cates, and Hathaway (might be missing 1 or 2 other players) who have not got the job done during a slim playoff run to stay in the race and finish the job. Are all of these players building blocks for the culture of winning?

As much as I have disagreed with the path of the rebuild, Briere has done well on the trade front. The players on the roster that Briere has traded during his tenure (probably going to miss a few)- Provy, Hayes, Walker, Poehling, Frost, Farabee, Laughton, Johnson, Brink, and Deslauriers. Arguably the most significant asset Briere traded away was Provy. IIRC, Provy was as much ready to leave as the regime was willing to let him leave. We’ll see if Briere has the courage to trade a player that the regime might make them uncomfortable.

I listed 10 players above as the current core who have been around for both fake playoff runs. Is there a rational reason that at most 4 players need to be retained? If intangibles and room fit do not lead to winning, I am struggling to see the point. This post is no referendum on the current HC. Now 8 seasons out of his 10 seasons as HC, he did not lead his team to a playoff birth. In total transparency, his one playoff birth was in the bubble where pretty much every team made the “playoffs”. Hard to watch an extremely boring style of hockey that does not win.

As a side note, non-Flyers related, Nikita Kucherov has to be one of the greatest drafts steals in National Hockey League history!!

How can a team devoid of any semblance of high-end talent still be clawing away at the playoffs?

The front half of the season has been fun, and somewhat unexpectedly positive in terms of wins. But, it’s time for reality to set in with Flyers management, it’s time to sell and acquire more draft capital. TK is a good place to start.

is TK asking to be traded? that’s pretty much the only way this happens.
