Mogilny Unable To Attend Hall Induction

2025 Hockey Hall of Fame inductee and former Buffalo Sabre Alexander Mogilny has announced he will be unable to attend the ceremony in Toronto on November 10th.

The 56-year-old native of Khabarovsk, Russia, will record a video acceptance for the event. Mogilny starred as a member of the Sabres from 1989 to 1995. The electrifying winger recorded 76 goals in 77 games with the Sabres in 1992-93.

That mark shared the league lead that year with Anaheim’s Teemu Selanne. Mogilny’s 76-goal total remains a Sabres team record for goals scored in a season.

The honor is long overdue for an elite player who has been eligible for inclusion for 17 years. Mogilny was the first Russian-born player to defect to the United States to play in the National Hockey League. He won the Stanley Cup as a member of the New Jersey Devils in 2000. In addition to his time with the Sabres and Devils, Mogilny also played with the Vancouver Canucks and the Toronto Maple Leafs.

In an NHL career that spanned 16 seasons, the flashy scorer finished with 990 games played, 473 goals, and 559 assists. Although the call from the hall was a long time in coming, Mogilny truly belongs with the greatest to have played the game.

Mrtka Sent Back To Junior

The Sabres 2025 first-round draft pick, Radim Mrtka, was sent back to his junior club, the Seattle Thunderbirds after a brief stint in the American Hockey League.

The 6′ 6″ defenseman was the ninth overall selection in June’s entry draft and appeared in four games this season for the Amerks, collecting one assist.
