Rangers Rally To Defeat Oilers In OT

The New York Rangers notched their second straight win, rallying to defeat the Edmonton Oilers 4-3 in overtime. Down 3-1, New York notched the equalizer in the third period, and JT Miller tallied in overtime for the win. Igor Shesterkin maybe gave up one questionable tally, but he was brilliant the last period and a half and in overtime to keep the team in the game.

The Blueshirts finish their West Coast swing Saturday in Seattle.

Game recap:

Coach Mike Sullivan shuffled the lines with New York down a pair of goals. That change proved valuable, as the new combinations meshed well in the third. The Rangers’ are rolling with those revised units Saturday against Seattle. Interestingly, Noah Laba is now the second-line center and should remain there until Vincent Trocheck is back, which could come by the end of the week.

Panarin – Miller – Zibanejad
Cuylle – Laba – Lafrenière
Sheary – Pärssinen – Raddysh

Artemi Panarin has not had his difficulties, as has Miller, at least until the game-winner. The hope is that the duo will get a jump skating with Mika Zibanejad. Sullivan said the same in practice on Friday, so it remains to be seen how long these units will stick together, but it’s worth a shot.

Miller has shown really good leadership this year. He was brutally honest about his struggles and how others stepped to get a win yesterday. Self-realization and admittance are areas he may have lacked in the past, so seeing that growth is nice. Taylor Raddysh leads the team in goals while Braden Schnider had the type of contest that should be somewhat of the norm but hasn’t been.

Sullivan discussed analytics vs. gut feel. The quote should be pinned on everyone’s twitter feed. Analytics are no question useful but they should not a;ways replace gut feel by a coach as the personal aspect should never be lost.

Buying in yet? It’s a complete 180 from last year at least. They seem to be a bit snakebit still

Tomorrow will be a good litmus test

No way. sorry. Way to early to plan a parade. What 180? They are a .500 team.

They jusy gave up like 8 shots for an entire game. Boom 180. A straight up genius at work right there

    Panarin Miller Mika
    Cuylle Laba Laf
    Perrault Trocheck Raddysh
    Edstrom Carrick Sheary (probably)
    JBrod/Parsinen

We should probably win a home game before we declare things have turned around. The 3 game streak is nice though.

Only 13 games into the season, too early to make any kind of statement but the first line needs more production and im really beginning to lose confidence that Laffy is going to turn it around.

You are right TJ, a complete 180, another loss. Genius at work, Drury took the best team in the league to a playoff bubble .500 hockey club. Fire Drury!!!
