The Chicago Blackhawks controlled much of the play Monday night but couldn’t find the finish, falling 3–1 to the Seattle Kraken at Climate Pledge Arena. Despite holding the edge in shots and scoring chances, the Hawks came up short again, dropping to 5-5-3 on the season and 0-2-1 on their six-game road trip.
Seattle snapped a two-game skid and improved to 6-2-4, led by Joey Daccord’s 29 saves and goals from Jamie Oleksiak, Matty Beniers, and Jordan Eberle.
Game Recap
1st Period – Scoreless Start
Both teams started cautiously. The Kraken had nine shots in the first 10 minutes, but Arvid Soderblom kept the Hawks alive with several key saves.
Chicago answered in the back half, generating more offensive-zone time and finishing the period even in shots, 10–10. However, the Blackhawks again failed to capitalize on their power play.
2nd Period – Trouble Again
The second period continues to be Chicago’s toughest frame, and it showed again.
The Hawks are now -7 in goal differential in second periods this season. Jamie Oleksiak opened the scoring with a point shot through traffic just 2:57 in, and Matty Beniers doubled the lead at 7:36 on a power play after a slick backhand feed from Jordan Eberle.
Chicago generated 14 shots, but Daccord stood tall. Two more failed power plays added to their frustration.
2nd Intermission: Kraken 2, Blackhawks 0
Possession-wise, this was one of Chicago’s best periods of the season — but again, execution was the issue. The Hawks dominated the shot metrics but couldn’t bury their chances.
Shot attempts: 49–24 CHI
Shots on goal: 25–15 CHI
Scoring chances: 26–15 CHI
3rd Period – Too Little, Too Late
The Hawks kept pushing and finally broke through when Connor Bedard chipped a puck ahead, chased it down, and fed Andre Burakovsky for a five-hole finish at 11:33.
But Eberle restored the two-goal cushion with his fifth of the season just four minutes later after a Frank Nazar turnover.
Seattle’s defensive structure under new head coach Lane Lambert held firm, and Daccord shut the door as Chicago managed only six shots in the final frame.

Bedard Extends Point Streak to Five
Even in defeat, Connor Bedard continued his rise. He extended his point streak to five games, producing 4 goals, 5 assists (all primary), 9 points, +4, and 53.7% on faceoffs — the most productive five-game stretch of his NHL career.
“His compete every single day is outstanding,” said Jeff Blashill. “He’s one of our better players, and I’ve asked him to lead by example — and he’s done that consistently.”
Levshunov Leads the Way on Defense
Quietly, Artyom Levshunov turned in another strong performance. With him on the ice at 5-on-5, Chicago led 21–7 in shot attempts, 12–7 in shots on goal, 16–5 in scoring chances, and 7–3 in high-danger looks.
His 75.5% expected goals rate (xGF%) topped all defensemen, followed by Wyatt Kaiser (73.5%).
Moore Brings Speed in Season Debut
Rookie Oliver Moore made his season debut and provided a spark. Despite a long travel day from Rockford, he brought pace, energy, and aggressiveness alongside Ryan Donato and Ilya Mikheyev.
He had three shots on goal, five total attempts, and positive possession numbers in his 15:33 of ice time.
“He went down, played well, and came back confident,” Blashill said. “His speed and compete level really help our depth.”
Nazar’s Rough Night
Frank Nazar couldn’t find his rhythm and made a costly giveaway that led directly to Eberle’s insurance goal. Blashill acknowledged the learning curve:
“There’s a lot of burden on his shoulders,” Blashill said. “It’s not realistic to expect perfection every night. But as a group, we need more guys bringing their A-game.”
Milestones & Notes
• Connor Murphy played his 500th career NHL game, becoming the 44th Blackhawk to reach the milestone.
• Tyler Bertuzzi also reached 500 career NHL games.
• The Blackhawks are now 0-3-2 when allowing the first goal.
• Landon Slaggert was reassigned to Rockford (AHL) prior to the game
• Joey Daccord is now 5-1-0 with a .937 save percentage all-time against Chicago.
Final Thought
Oliver Moore played a solid game in his first NHL appearance of the season, showing energy and poise.
The Blackhawks continue to struggle on the power play, but it’s encouraging to watch the development of their young core — Rinzel, Bedard, Nazar, Moore, and Levshunov — taking steps together.
Even in defeat, this was a meaningful game for a rebuilding team. Nights like this aren’t losses; they’re lessons.
Next Game:
