Red Wings fall 5-0 to Islanders
The Red Wings were hoping for a better outcome against the Islanders this time. Unfortunately, Detroit was shut out while allowing five goals against. Consequently, Detroit has surrendered 12 goals in two games to the Isles this year.
Detroit won’t have time to dwell on this game, as the team will play 12 times in three weeks. The Red Wings will have to bounce back quickly, as a slide could be damaging. Only seven points separate the Tom team from the bottom in the Atlantic Division right now.
An unrelenting schedule awaits Detroit
The Red Wings back to back schedule has an interesting, if not concerning twist. Of the 12 upcoming games, four will be in the Pacific time zone. That travel is always difficult, and it is exacerbated by playing games every other day.
If they’re not careful, Detroit could slide out of the playoff bubble in the net ten game series. Fatigue and frustration are normal this time of year, however the team can ill afford either. Still, this group has shown the ability to bounce back after a tough loss.
Organizational depth could soon be tested
Injuries are always a problem, but this year time missed is even more problematic. If a player is out for two weeks, they could miss five to seven games. Therefore, staying healthy is going to be key to any success Detroit hopes to find.
Players like Amadeus Lombardi and John Leonard should be on high alert, and ready for an opportunity in the coming weeks. The Griffins are off to an incredible 11-0-0-1 start, and Yzerman has been watching. The upcoming schedule could well provide a huge opportunity to come up and audition. The success of the rebuild is based on the prospects, and the success of the season may be the same.
