Flyers Phans of Philly

Rick Tocchet’s Philadelphia Flyers (15-9-3) will host Ryan Worsofsky’s San Jose Sharks (14-13-3) on Tuesday evening. This is the first of two meetings between the interconference teams and the lone game in Philadelphia.

Philly sustained a 3-2 loss to the Colorado Avalanche on Sunday afternoon. In a losing cause, Sean Couturier and Travis Konecny scored one goal apiece for the Flyers. A poor latter 15 minutes of the first period and first half the middle frame dug a 3-1 hole. However, Trevor Zegras had a penalty shot opportunity to forge a 3-3 tie in the third period. Colorado goaltender Mackenzie Blackwood denied the attempt.

San Jose is playing the third game of a five-game road trip. The team is 2-2-0 thus far in December. Most recently, the Sharks skated to a 4-1 win over the Carolina Hurricanes on Sunday. Macklin Celebrini led the way with three points (1g, 2a).

Tocchet’s Take (Dec. 8 post-practice)

Rick Tocchet had some choice words for observers who second-guessed his decision to give the fourth line a shift with about five minutes left in Sunday’s game against Colorado. He elected not to burn his timeout or to shorten the rotation to three lines.

“I’ve heard people say they should use this guy or that guy. I think it’s bullshit. This is a team thing, and I’m a culture guy. We are building a culture here,” Tocchet said.

The head coach also addressed Muchison’s potential NHL debut on Tuesday among other topics.

Leading scorers — Sharks (through 30 games)

Mackin Celebrini — 43 points (15g, 28a)
Will Smith — 28 points (12g, 16a)
William Eklund — 18 points (7g, 11a)
Tyler Taffoli — 18 points (7g, 11a)
Dmitry Orlov — 16 points (0g, 16a)
Philipp Kurashev — 15 points (6g, 9a)
Alexander Wennberg — 15 points (6g, 9a)

Injury report — Sharks

Vincent Desharnais is week-to-week with a lower-body injury.
