Three Suitors Named For Flames Andersson

The Calgary Flames are a team to watch incredibly closely with the 2026 NHL trade deadline rapidly approaching. They are expected to be one of the biggest sellers this year, as they are currently seventh in the Pacific Division with a 19-22-4 record.

The Flames’ biggest trade candidate is defenseman Rasmus Andersson. The right-shot blueliner has been the subject of trade rumors throughout the season. It is easy to understand why, with Andersson being a pending unrestricted free agent (UFA) and the Flames continuing to struggle.

Now, a few suitors have been named for Andersson.

During the latest episode of 32 Thoughts: The Podcast, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman named the Detroit Red Wings, Los Angeles Kings, and Vegas Golden Knights as teams with interest in Andersson.

With the Red Wings, Friedman noted that the Original Six club would need to know what Andersson would want for a contract extension before potentially acquiring him. In addition, Friedman stressed that he did not think a trade between the Red Wings and Flames was close at this time.

Andersson Would Be An Excellent Addition For Each Of These 3 Teams

Yet, when looking at the Red Wings’ roster, there is no question that they could use a defenseman like Andersson. He would be a fantastic addition to their second pairing if acquired and would also fit on their power play. Furthermore, with the Red Wings looking to break their nine-year playoff drought, now seems like the right time for them to bring in a high-impact defenseman like Andersson.

The Kings having interest in Andersson is also easy to understand. There is no question that the Kings’ defense could use a big boost, and this is especially so when noting that Los Angeles has struggled with consistency this season. Thus, it would make a lot of sense for them to make a splash and acquire a blueliner like Andersson.

As for the Golden Knights, they certainly could use another right-shot defenseman with Alex Pietrangelo out. Andersson would provide them with a strong replacement for him on their right side. The Golden Knights are also never afraid of making a big move, so they certainly are worth keeping an eye on in the Andersson sweepstakes.
