But the extension is about more than just keeping a well-liked, productive player at a valuable position in the fold. Dvorak was a pending unrestricted free agent. When he signed a one-year, $5.4 million contract with the Flyers on July 1, there was as much of a chance he would be dealt ahead of this season’s March 6 trade deadline as there was of earning an extension. Considering contending teams are always looking for help down the middle, and those players are difficult to find, Flyers general manager Daniel Briere would have fielded innumerable phone calls had he made Dvorak available to the highest bidder.

That won’t happen now. That Briere decided so quickly that Dvorak was worthy of a deal that is probably too long for a player of Dvorak’s caliber is a clear signal the pivot toward trying to win is in full swing.

Put another way, it’s now playoffs or bust for the 2025-26 Flyers.

That aged well and points out how screwed the team is with this front office. They could’ve held a 50/50 raffle at a game and probably come up with a better front office. Hell, I’d almost rather have a fan than Tocch at this point as well.

      Quote from Brière:

The Rebuild is Over” (Sept 2025): Brière indicated that the team is moving into a new phase and that the era of being “sellers” at the trade deadline is over, stating it would be a failure if they were in that position again.

      and this one

“But like I said, when you’re not spending $12 million on a player, or even two like Edmonton does… Colorado has three or four high-end guys. We’re not going to be built that way. So depth will be important to us.”

What a great management team the flyer has assembled. there was zero need to sign dvorak when they did. all while his value was at its highest. Guess those wharton classed Danny took dont resonate with him at all.

5 years of another 3rd lie center.

dvorak- cates- ex selke is def a cup contending center group.

“I’m a big believer in Sam Ersson. I think that Sam is in a position now, age-wise, and being pushed by the depth at that position that’s there now, is going to benefit him, as well. I think that Sam is going to stand up to the test here this year,” Jones said.

Hilferty added, “I said this to the players the other day, we want to build a culture of sustainable excellence. Not just a shot next year, and it falls off after.”

      ——————–

No matter how bad Ersson does, the Flyers have his back. Michkov, not so much. Ersson get’s as much support from the FO/coaching as Michkov get’s criticism. Hard to believe which one of them might have a future.

Thankfully Hilferty said they want to build a championship culture and not a championship team because he has no clue what the latter looks like. Team with talent talk about their talent, teams with nothing tangible to talk about, talk about culture. They should change their names to the Philadelphia Culture. Because that’s what’s important to them.

I wonder if these clowns even realize they are a laughing stock locally and nationally.

Doubtful as they continue to sell the same bullshit.

Can’t wait to see Danny’s next move. My bad it was calling up “Jones’s” pet.

Depth is so important that after 5 seasons as a bottom-dweller, the Flyers still have none.

You are incorrect. The Flyers have plenty of depth. You are assuming he meant NHL depth talentwise for playoff teams.

He was talking about having depth of culture players. They will be the most cultured team in the NHL. There won’t be enough culture left over for the other teams. They will have to cancel the playoffs this year because all of the teams are so uncultured.

The only team with Stanley cup culture will be the Flyers and therefore they will be awarded the cup.

Who needs a Crosby, Bedard, Makar, or Hughes when you have the Flyers culture? Who needs role players properly slotted and pd according to their talents and not their culture. Not the Flyers!

Also, anyone else tired of the puff pieces about how the Flyers have such a great front office? It’s almost like the Flyers are owned by a multinational media company.

Flyers’ rebuild timeline remains unclear as team reaches mediocrity

The Flyers now have several players locked into long-term, no-trade contracts through at least the 2030 season, including forwards Travis Konecny, captain Sean Couturier, Christian Dvorak, Owen Tippett, and defenseman Travis Sanheim. They also have defenseman Cam York locked up until the 2030 season; however, he does not have a no-trade clause in his contract, according to Puckpedia.com, nor does center Noah Cates, who is signed until the 2029 season.

The Flyers have seven roster spots locked up long-term. Along with this, the Flyers are likely to re-sign newly acquired center/wing hybrid Trevor Zegras, who is currently leading the Flyers in points, to a long-term deal. Matvei Michkov is also another untouchable, according to the Flyers, so he can be penciled into the future long-term as well. Along with Michkov, forward Tyson Foerster (24) is another player that the Flyers are not looking to move on from any time soon.

Even if the Flyers wanted to take a step back it’s to late. With the number of existing long-term contracts and impending long-term contracts, half the team is locked up or will be locked up through 2030. Anyone with trade value has a long term contract, most with no trade clauses. Ristolainen will finish his career in the most Risto and Flyer way possible. As a Flyer defenseman on LTIR.

Other than Martone coming up this is probably your team for the next 3-5 years. Maybe he can be a franchise center because Dvo sure as hell isn’t it.

It looks like the fans aren’t buying the fake “rebuild” anymore.

Attendance at Flyers games have taken a nose dive to be their lowest in 3 years.

The front office needs to show something to the fans and are failing.

It’s a good thing for the players that half of them are on NMC contracts for the next 5 years.

they will acquire a 4th line center to show they mean business.

Can’t wait to see what scared danny boy does from now to the deadline.

I know this is a few days old but the letter to STH clearly touts that their sights are set on the playoffs and please renew your season tickets.

There were numerous quotes from DB, Jones, and Hilf all year about this being a push for the playoffs year.

People can stop with the lies that “this wasn’t supposed a year they pushed for the playoffs” or “the players will determine”.

Comcast wants it’s playoff revenue and only the willfully blind can’t see it.

But Rick Tocchet was definitely the right hire! And I had to take a look, only to be surprised they’re “only” paying him $5M a year… thought it was a hell of a lot more than that.

And I have no idea who the guy who posted this is, but he goes on to try and defend the organization in some of his replies. He has a few other posts where he’s all over the place opinion-wise.

I would say the Flyers of today are one of the greatest comedies ever if they didn’t truly believe they were on the right track.

Flyers’ Playoff Odds Are Essentially Zero
According to Hockey Stats, the Flyers’ playoff odds have dropped to just 9%. If you thought that was low, the math behind their situation is even more uninspiring.

Right now, the bar for the Orange and Black to make the postseason is about 98 points. By points percentage, the worst playoff team in the Eastern Conference is the New York Islanders, and they’re pacing for 97 points. Due to the Flyers’ low regulation-win total (17; the first tiebreaker for playoff scenarios), there’s no guarantee that tying that pace gets them in. So, 98 it is.

To get there, the Flyers would need 40 points in their last 28 contests, or in other words, finish 12 games over .500. Seeing as the team has dropped 11 of its last 13, we can safely assume that this isn’t going to happen.

Of course, it is possible that the bar to be playoff-bound is under 98 points. But the number shouldn’t be too far off. Ultimately, the Flyers are looking at next-to-impossible odds.

Well that escalated quickly. I guess the answer to playoffs or bust is BUST.

Time to start the we were still rebuilding this year and there were no expectations. They might want to retract that STH letter if that’s the case.
