Not Bill but i can’t imagine either getting fired.
Torts. As horrible as he was in pretty much every possible way a coach can be except in dealing with the press was in no danger of losing his job. The press loved him and we got puff pieces from the 4 nations tournament about how people didn’t know “the real tortorella” who was kind to puppies and helped little old ladies across the street. Plus he wanted to bring back the “Flyers culture”. Even after it became publicly known he abused York and told the world he didn’t want to coach this team DB still lamented he wasn’t able to bring Torts back for another year.
Fletcher. He didn’t get fired for being bad at his job either. He got fired for promising results and not being media friendly. You can’t be “all in” and “bias for action” and still end up out of the playoffs.
Jones and DB are much more media friendly than Fletcher. Who can forget Jones and DB at the airport carrying Michkov’s sticks and looking like the 3 amigos. So relatable and much more available than Fletcher ever was. They also haven’t promised anything so their is really no moment to hold them accountable. By labelling everything as a “rebuild” it doesn’t really matter what they do. Half the fanbase will give them unlimited rope while calling the other half negadelphians for pointing out the inconstancies. It’s only when the entire fanbase unites against them that it’s a problem.
Tocchet. See Torts. Short of dousing himself in gasoline and lighting the match like Torts, it is unlikely that he will be fired as long as he keeps talking about culture and accountability. Even though Tocch left behind a FEMA level disaster in Vancouver he came out smelling like a rose.
The goal here is to be like Mike (Tomlin). Just good enough not get the elite talent you need and just bad enough to never be expected to win a playoff game. As the steelers have shown. Fan bases will wait nearly forever as long as you play enough meaningful regular season games and don’t have the expectations that elite talent brings.

ParticipantWhat is the scouting report on Shane Wright? What would it cost us and are we really interested? I’d much rather make a bigger swing and give up assets for Robert Thomas. Only 26 years old. Much higher cap hit than Wright but higher offensive ceiling. We are pretty average down the middle.

they both will at some point as all coaches and GM’s do
the flyers do not have mike tomlin type history to keep someone around that long. Shit Clarke was canned

Dan Snider never fired Clarke, that was his son Jay. Dan then fired Jay and rehired Clarke who served 19 total years as GM, not including Senior VP, etc. He retired on his own terms citing burnout and fatigue.
Tocchet wasn’t fired from his last job, he went to the team that threw the most money at him, on his own terms.
Hell, even Torts probably would’ve finished his current contract if DB had a choice in the matter. Results on the ice be damned.Short of an extremely public meltdown like Torts or DB being fired first, my guess is Toc finishes out the contract at which point he will be 66 years old.
Unless fans stop coming to games en masse DB’s job is safe for the next few years.Go team culture!

ParticipantRisto, who has already missed more games than he’s played the last 3 years, only lasted 1 game and 2 shifts after returning from his latest injury. Not counting his 2 shifts tonight he’s on pace for a little over 20 games played this year. Hopefully McDonald didn’t make the trip to the AHL yet.
Already on one of the worst contracts in the league and a player who seemingly gets injured every time he laces up the skates, he is considered a core player for the Flyers.
Once the bodies of aging players who take a lot of physical punishment start breaking down, it’s time to move on but the Flyers keep doubling down on him.

dont see tocchet lasting the whole 5 years at all. Danny will be fired by the end of the 2028 season, unless a miraculous turnaround.

Well he does play the right way and just oozes culture. That’s going to cost them.
Another 35% on the Faceoffs for the team, they did that just last week as well. It’s to bad Zegras, who is listed as a center everywhere, can’t help them in the faceoff circle. Oh well, faceoffs are overrated, who needs to win them. Same with centers, just convert them all to wingers, who needs them.
Zegras has cooled off significantly in his last 10 games after the hot start. Not that Zegras isn’t a good winger but he probably isn’t as great as they thought a month ago and definitely not the center they really need. It will be interesting to see the $$$ Danny gives him on top of the standard 5 year NMC he gives everyone.

will zegras want a long term or bridge deal? guess will depend somewhat on how the rest of the season goes.
