ParticipantAnyone in Dubai with an older Aston actually trust an independent shop or is it dealer or bust
I’ve had my 2010 DB9 for about three years now and I adore the thing in a way that’s probably not healthy for a machine but the annual service is coming up and I just cannot stomach walking into the dealership and walking out with a bill that looks like a phone number again especially when half the charges are for things like “perform visual inspection of floor mats” and other nonsense that makes me feel like I’m paying for the marble floors in the waiting lounge more than actual wrenching. A friend of a friend mentioned there are a few Aston Martin luxury car service specialists around here who used to work at the main dealer before branching out on their own and they’ve got all the proper AMDS software and the specific tools for the rear transaxle setup but I’m still incredibly nervous because one wrong torque sequence on a timing cover or a lazy oil change with the wrong spec Castrol and suddenly my V12 is making sounds that will haunt my dreams and cost more to fix than the car is currently worth on the used market. The car is running fine honestly just a slight hesitation when it’s cold and the tire pressure sensors have been acting up which is classic Aston behavior but I know if I take it in they’re going to find a whole list of “while you’re in there” items like the coil packs that are known to crack on these early cars and I’m trying to figure out if an independent shop can actually do the work properly without cutting corners because I’d rather pay a fair price for expert care than a premium price for a fancy showroom experience. Anyone actually gone down this road with a Gaydon era Aston and lived to tell the tale or should I just accept my fate and remortgage the house for the peace of mind that comes with that official stamp in the book.
