Sacrificing your youth to a player over 10 years older is not a worthy plan for a long term playoff team, which is the Yzer-goal.

Yzerman’s Inability or Reluctance To Make a Splash

Where Do the Red Wings Go From Here?
Kicking Y upstairs is not a remedy for the long rebuild. Y gets a final year to prove himself and utilize some of the talent he has acquired that is doing very well in Grand Rapids. There are also trades to be made, mostly to reinforce the bottom 6, so that should not be too costly. If there is an Alec Tuch, Mason Marchment, Arvidson, or Jenner in FA, go for him! A trade for a premier LD like Gavrikov would be nice……

I did enjoy your post, though Mike…..even if it is a painful reality.

The “happy homecoming” story for Steve Yzerman in Detroit has not gone the way that either he or the Red Wings hoped — or expected — it to play out.
