Leafs take 85th overall: Juuso Ainasto, 6’4″ goalie from Finland. Not even on the list of top 10 goalies in this draft. Finnish goalies use to be pretty elite but have dropped off in recent years. Ainasto is considered a huge wild card, super athletic and competitive but often erratic in his net and a bit of a hot dog. Wasn’t really on the radar for most scouts, doesn’t seem like he needed to be picked this early.

Brady Knowling was still on the board and he was considered the #1 goalie by NHL Central Scouting. 6-foot-5, 208 pounds.

Filip Ruzicka 6’7″, 230, catches righty, ranked 4th, still on the board.

Yegor Rybkin (taken by LA only 4 picks later) 6’7″, 207 was still there ranked 7th.

William Lacelle and Jan Larys also still on the board and all ranked in the top 10 in the NHL Central Scouting for goalies.

This one might be a big swing and miss. Seem to have taken him too early and if they really liked him could have taken him way later with this many quality goalies still on the board.
