Sabres: Krebs, Davidson, Schedule and More

The Buffalo Sabres and forward Peyton Krebs have avoided a pending August 1st arbitration hearing and agreed to a new contract. The new deal is a four year contract with an average annual value of 4.5 million dollars.  Although the 25-year-old veteran was a versatile contributor for the Sabres last season, the price of the new pact for a player who will spend most of his time in the lower portion of the forward ranks is steep.

Krebs saw time on the top line with Tage Thompson and the now departed Alex Tuch last season, but is best suited in a fourth line slot.  This deal, along with winger Beck Malenstyn’s recently inked six year 17 million, five-hundred thousand dollar contract shows the Sabres commitment to their hard working bottom six forwards.

Still, Krebs is a gritty player who will agitate the opposition and is capable of moving up in the lineup for short stints when called upon.

With the loss of Tuch, the overall cost  and term associated with keeping as many pieces of the 25-26 group together has been high.

Davidson hired as senior advisor

The Sabres continue to add experienced, high profile individuals to their staff. John Davidson has joined the club in the role of Senior Advisor.

Davidson, 73, is reunited with Sabres general ,anager Jarmo Kekalainen where he served as team president of the Columbus Blue Jackets while Kekalainen held the role of GM.  Davidson has also held team president posts with the St. Louis Blues and the New York Rangers.

On the ice, Davidson was the netminder for the 1979 New York Rangers, who reached the Stanley Cup Final.

Following his playing career Davidson began an outstanding transition to broadcasting.

He served as a television color commentator for the Rangers, as well as NHL national broadcasts for CBC, Fox, ESPN and OLN.
