The Toronto Maple Leafs organization has drafted and developed a number of youngsters currently playing in the NHL (Auston Matthews, William Nylander, Morgan Rielly, Matthew Knies), but the club under former GM’s Kyle Dubas and Brad Treliving, and new GM John Chayka have had different ideas of what kind of prospects they wanted to populate the organization with.
As we’ve done on a yearly basis, we will be ranking the club’s top prospects over the upcoming weeks based on their progress in either the NCAA, CHL, Europe, ECHL, or AHL, and their potential to make the Leafs roster and make a contribution in the future.
Players are eligible for the list if they have not played more than 82 NHL games and are 25 years old or younger:

The Maple Leafs spread out their positional focus at the 2026 NHL Draft in Buffalo, selecting two goaltenders, four forwards, and four defensemen. The last of the blueliners chosen was Russian product Yaroslav Fedoseyev, with their middle pick in the sixth round. The 18-year-old is from Chelabinsyk and has played in the youth levels of the KHL Traktor system since 2022. Last season, the 6’1″, 187 lb. defenseman played in three levels: the junior MHL (24 games – 2 goals, 11 assists), the second-level pro VHL (25 games – 1 goal, 5 assists), and the KHL for nine games (1 goal, 0 assists).
The righty-shooter is an agile skater, a smart puck mover who makes a good first pass and is an aggressive defender. They also say that “Fedoseyev excels at the box out, extending out to the flanks to pin and stall threats on the outside. He’s disruptive, hunts physical opportunities on the rush, and his mean streak persisted throughout our
team’s viewings.”
The fact that Russia is still banned from international competition will prevent Fedoseyev from any competition in the World Junior or World Championships, so it is likely that he will play at all three levels next season.
