Kraken Hosting Western Conference Champs

After a light NHL schedule out west yesterday, business picks up in the Pacific Division with the Florida Panthers visiting the Los Angeles Kings and the Vegas Golden Knights headed to Seattle to face the Kraken.

The Golden Knights head into Seattle splitting their last two with a loss to the Ducks on Friday and a victory over the Canucks on Sunday.

From Sin City With Love

In their 4-3 loss to the Ducks, the Golden Knights saw goals from Shea Theodore, Tomáš Hertl, and Braeden Bowman-all of which came in the third period. In their 3-2 win over the Canucks, it was the second period when Las Vegas did its damage. Mitch Marner, Victor Olofsson and Marc Gatcomb each found the net.

The Kraken will have to contend with Vegas Golden Knights center Jack Eichel, who is off to a fast start this season.

The North Chelmsford, MA native has 6 points under his belt, which is tied for 3rd in the NHL. He has been particularly impactful setting up teammates with 5 assists, putting him in a tie for 2nd in the NHL. The team’s first game of the season against the Blackhawks was Eichel’s most productive, with a goal and two assists.

Other news and notes from Vegas include Raphael Lavoi, who remains officially designated as day-to-day and was seen in a non-contact jersey last Tuesday.

Additionally, Knights General Manager Kelly McCrimmon announced last week that the team signed William Karlsson to a two-year extension. The forward is slated to be a member of the Knights through the 2028-2029 season on a deal with an average annual value of $6.75 million.

The lineup for the Golden Knights for tonight’s contest projects to look something like this at the time of writing:

  • Ivan Barbashev — Jack Eichel — Mark Stone
  • Brett Howden — William Karlsson — Mitch Marner
  • Trevor Connelly — Tomas Hertl — Victor Olofsson
  • Marc Gatcomb — Nic Dowd — Braeden Bowman

On the other side of the ice, the Seattle Kraken will look to keep things going in the right direction at Climate Pledge Arena. The Kraken come into tonight’s game fresh off a 6-1 home victory over the Calgary Flames on Sunday.

Goals were not difficult to find in Sunday’s victory. Berkly Catton, Mackie Samoskevich and Bobby McMann each lit the lamp in the first period. Samoskevich notched his second goal of the evening in the second period, along with a goal from Shane Wright.

It was Wright’s goal assisted by Catton that had a lot of people around the NHL taking note:

The third period saw captain Jordan Eberle record his second goal of the young season, assisted by Chandler Stephenson and Brandon Montour. The assists were Chandler’s 3rd and Montour’s 2nd thus far.

While not yet official, the Kraken lineup at morning skate was:

  • McCann-Beniers-Samoskevich
  • McMann-Stephenson-Eberle
  • Kakko-Catton-Wright
  • Meyers-Gaudreau-Winterton
  • Dunn-Larsson
  • Evans-Montour

Should Joey Daccord find himself in net tonight, he’ll look to continue his stellar season. The Boston, MA native is 2-0-0 with a 1.00 GAA and .966 save percentage on the young campaign.
