The 2024-25 season for the Laval Rocket came to a crashing end on Tuesday night with a 3-2 loss to the Charlotte Checkers. Despite playing their best game of the series, according to their head coach, the Rocket were swept in four games by the AHL affiliate of the Florida Panthers.
The sudden end to the season was a disappointment to the players and fans whose expectations were raised as Laval earned the title as regular season champions. That said, it was a very successful campaign for the Canadiens, their AHL affiliate, and their prospects in an environment that combined development and winning.
Laval head coach Pascal Vincent was a big part of creating the formula that helped prospects gain valuable experience while bringing his team to the top of the standings. In his end-of-season media availability, Vincent spoke about the plan to patiently develop players to bolster the Canadiens core. And as the core grows together, the Habs have the potential to become a team who can contend on a perennial basis.
