Canadiens Connection: Combine Standouts

The Montreal Canadiens have been busy doing their due diligence to prepare for the upcoming 2025 NHL Draft on June 27th and 28th. They have also done their best to mask their true intentions just as they have done in previous years. To decipher the clues, two draft experts join the show in the latest episode of the Canadiens Connections podcast with a single goal: to help determine Montreal’s next impact player.

Michael Augello is a Buffalo-based reporter covering the NHL, co-host of Off the Post Radio, and is the co-managing editor of Hockey HotStove. On this week’s CC podcast, Michael provides an insider’s view of the NHL Scouting Combine and discusses possible scenarios for the Canadiens with the 16th and 17th picks overall.

Also joining the show is Jerome Berube, who is the Director of Scouting for Hockey Prospect. This independent scouting service provides player evaluations to NHL and CHL teams. This June, Hockey Prospect published their NHL Draft Breakdown, which contains extensive scouting profiles, grades, and draft rankings.

In the second segment of the podcast, Jerome breaks down the ideal targets for the Montreal Canadiens in the first round of the 2025 NHL Draft.

We also discuss Calder Trophy winner Lane Hutson and Logan Mailloux being named a Top Prospect in the American Hockey League.

Canadiens Connection question of the week: What kind of player do you think the Canadiens are missing the most—and will that player be available at pick 16 in this year’s draft?
