Isles Name Bowness Asst. General Manager

New York Islanders General Manager Mathieu Darche announced Monday that Ryan Bowness has been named Assistant General Manager and Director of Player Personnel. The 41-year-old Bowness joins the Islanders after three seasons as the Ottawa Senators’ assistant general manager and general manager of the Belleville Senators of the AHL . Bowness and Ottawa mutually agreed to part ways following the season. The Senators qualified for the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the first time since their Eastern Conference Finals appearance in 2016-17.

He spent six seasons with the Pittsburgh Penguins from 2016-17 through 2021-22, as the Director of Pro Scouting and a Pro Scout. He won a Stanley Cup with Pittsburgh in 2017. Prior to his time in Pittsburgh, Bowness spent seven seasons as a member of the Winnipeg Jets/Atlanta Thrashers Hockey Operations Department, serving in a wide variety of capacities, including Pro Scout, Manager of Hockey Operations, and Manager of Player Development.

Ryan is the son of former Islanders Head Coach Rick Bowness, who was also the first Ottawa Senators Head Coach when the franchise joined the league in 1992.

Bowness joins Chris Lamoriello and Stephen Pellegrini as assistant general managers. Lamoriello, as of now, remains the general manager of the Bridgeport Islanders. Both Lamoriello and Pellegrini were given multi-year contract extensions by former GM and Chris’ father, Lou Lamoriello.
