The Chicago Blackhawks are building something serious in the Windy City — and they just added a critical piece to the puzzle. The organization has locked up forward Sacha Boisvert on a three-year entry-level contract, and if that wasn’t enough to get Blackhawks fans fired up, Anton Frondell’s NHL debut could be right around the corner.
Boisvert Brings Size, Skill and an Edge
At 6-foot-3 and 185 pounds, Boisvert is exactly the kind of power forward Chicago has been missing. The Trois-Rivières, Quebec native was the Blackhawks’ first-round pick at 18th overall in the 2024 NHL Draft, and after two collegiate seasons split between the University of North Dakota and Boston University, he’s ready to make the jump.
His college numbers tell a strong story. In 63 games across both programs, Boisvert piled up 49 points including 21 goals and 28 assists. His freshman year at UND was a statement season — 18 goals in 37 games earned him NCHC Rookie of the Year honors and a spot on the All-Rookie Team. Before that, he tore apart the USHL with the Muskegon Lumberjacks, posting 113 points in 118 regular-season games.
His sophomore campaign at Boston University wasn’t without bumps — injuries slowed him and a suspension for fighting raised a few eyebrows. But here’s the thing — that edge, that willingness to drop the gloves and get physical? That’s exactly what the Blackhawks rebuild has been lacking. Chicago doesn’t need another finesse player right now. They need players who compete hard every single night and make life miserable for opponents. Boisvert fits that mold.
The ELC carries a cap hit of $974,167 through the 2027-28 season — tremendous value for a player with his upside.
Frondell: The Next One Knocking on the Door
If Boisvert’s signing gets you excited, wait until you hear about Anton Frondell. The third overall pick in the 2025 NHL Draft has been turning heads in the SHL all season, and the buzz out of the Blackhawks organization is that his NHL debut could happen very soon.
The 18-year-old Swede had an inconsistent start to his SHL season — flashes of brilliance mixed with the natural growing pains you expect from a teenager playing men’s hockey in Europe. But since returning from the World Juniors, where he helped Sweden capture gold, Frondell has been on an absolute tear. He found the back of the net in 10 of his final 18 games, finishing with 20 goals on the season.
To put that in perspective — only four players in SHL history have scored 20 goals as an 18-year-old. The last one to do it was Daniel Sedin back in 1998-99. That’s the company Frondell is keeping. That’s not a prospect — that’s a future franchise player.
Frondell and his club Djurgården are currently in the SHL playoffs, opening a three-game series against Malmö. Once that chapter closes, all eyes will be on whether the Blackhawks pull the trigger and bring their prized prospect to Chicago.
