An MRI on Boston Bruins center Elias Lindholm this past weekend only confirmed what the club initially feared, and while Bruins head coach Marco Sturm wouldn’t share the specifics of the injury, he did confirm that the Bruins will be without their top-line center, and that Lindholm is considered “week to week.”
Injured in a collision with the Sabres’ Jordan Greenway in last Thursday’s head-to-head with the Sabres, the Bruins are calling it a lower-body injury for Lindholm, who had posted four goals and nine points through 13 games this season.
With Lindholm down, the Bruins shifted Marat Khusnutdinov from wing to center on the Black and Gold’s top line. Khusnutdinov delivered some immediate results with an overtime goal in last Thursday’s win over Buffalo, and continued to man the ‘1C’ spot in Saturday’s win over the Hurricanes. The speedy Russian finished that contest with a minus-1 rating and two blocks, and with wins in two of his four battles at the dot.
Lindholm’s absence also led to a move up the depth chart for Mark Kastelic, who shifted from the fourth line to the third line, and to the right of the Bruins’ Tanner Jeannot and Fraser Minten combo. Speaking after practice on Monday, Sturm mentioned that the righty-shooting Kastelic’s move to the third line was also done with the intentions of helping Minten on right-side faceoffs.
The Bruins, who are back at .500 on the year by way of a 7-7-0 record, will look for their fourth straight win Tuesday night when they travel to Long Island for a head-to-head with Patrick Roy’s Islanders.
