Chicago Blackhawks Recap: Week 2

The second week of the season was an excellent one for the Chicago Blackhawks, who went 3-0-1 and collected seven of a possible eight points.

Through seven games, the Hawks sit at 3-2-2, ranking 4th in their division and 13th overall in the NHL — a strong start considering the competition they’ve faced.

Every Monday, we bring you the Blackhawks Weekly Recap, covering everything from the NHL roster to the AHL Rockford IceHogs and key prospects in the system.

We’ll review the week’s results, highlight standout performances, and close out with our Three Stars of the Week across all levels.

This past week was full of competitive, high-energy hockey. Chicago was in every game — battling hard, showing structure, and continuing to grow under Coach Jeff Blashill.

The week began with a 3-1 home win over the Utah Mammoth, followed by an 8-3 statement victory in Missouri against the Blues.

Back at home, the Hawks fell 3-2 in a shootout to the Vancouver Canucks, before closing out the week with a 2-1 overtime win over the Anaheim Ducks at the United Center.

It was a complete team effort, led by the hot stick of Ryan Donato, who scored in three straight games — including two game-winners — while Connor BedardFrank Nazar, and Lukas Reichel each made key contributions to the team’s offensive rhythm.

A strong foundation is forming in Chicago, and week by week, this young group continues to show maturity, effort, and belief.

    Another article, nice

Sorry for posting so much but I’ve been waiting for this since they announced gutting the team and just so excited.

Just seeing where the Blackhawks are at, the prospect pipe line, the 5 picks in the 1st two rounds in 2026.

Good time to be a Blackhawk fan.

Yea, these Monday look backs on the week are really nice for a fan. Gives a lotta the info some context……

We know Blashill loves the 11F 7D game day roster and it seems to be a fine idea. As you mention the TOI for Dmen is a little lopsided but it’s working and gives the coaches so many possibilities in game. Interesting to watch L4 operate with 1 different mate every shift at forward.

Dach seems to have slide outa the top 6 this week. Kid just can’t have long stretches where he’s not noticeable at all. Something to watch.

Blash is giving Reichel a pretty good look see and important minutes. Kid is an enigma and now it’s Blashill’s turn to beat his head against the wall.

Better week for Rinzel. Not expecting last yrs Rinzel but do expect he’ll get the attention of opposing coaches who are putting together a game plan. No sneaking up on anyone this yr but this was a good week for Rinzel.

A 3rd line that can shut top opponents down, take the tough Dzone draws and still win the possession battle is a dream for coaches. Looks like Donato and Mikkayhev will get poached from that line at times but I’m sure Blash and Crew understand this. But putting that line together is a helluv an ace in the hole.

Thanks for your comment and great overview of the Blackhawks’ Week 2 performance. I completely agree — running with 7D and 11F has worked early in the season, but once Slaggert and Foligno are ready to return full-time, the team will need to shift back to 12 forwards and 7 defensemen.

As for Rinzel, absolutely — a very solid week for the big man. Sure, there will be nights where he struggles, but I believe Bashill will make the right in-game adjustments when that happens.

Finally, the 3-2-2 record doesn’t tell the whole story. Knight has been outstanding, erasing plenty of mistakes and turnovers in front of him. He’s been nothing short of unbelievable to start the season.

Enjoy your day, and as always — Go Blackhawks!
