Collapsed Lung Sidelines Stars Captain

Dallas Stars captain Jamie Benn will miss the start of the 2025-26 regular season. The 36-year-old suffered a collapsed lung during the team’s game on Tuesday against the Minnesota Wild. According to NHL.com, team doctors evaluated the veteran power forward during the third period of the game. An X-ray revealed a small puncture that caused one of Benn’s lungs to collapse.

Benn underwent surgery on Thursday. He has been shut down for the time being.Team doctors will re-evaluate the player’s condition in four weeks. Benn will miss at least the first month of the regular season.

Stars general manager Jim Nill addressed the player’s treatment plan.

“He’s not allowed to travel because of the pressure to the lungs, so no air travel. They expect it to be close to healing for contact after four weeks and we’ll see after that,” Nill told NHL.com.
