Flyers Daily: Mondays with Meltzer (Nov. 24, 2025)

In this week’s Mondays with Meltzer, Jason Myrtetus and I discuss a plethora of topics about the week that was and the team’s week to come. Make no mistake. The next four games will say a lot about this team’s staying power in the Eastern Conference wildcard chase in the second quarter of the 2025-26 season. In a fast-moving 30-plus minute episode, we look at:

  • The team made adjustment in recent games. They went from a 1-2-2 offensive zone forecheck to a 2-1-2. They still play a layered (1-2-2) forecheck in the neutral zone and a box + 1 in the defensive zone. Jason and I talked about the pros and cons of a more aggressive forecheck.
  • The Flyers rediscovered their transition game against the Devils. Both Michkov and Zegras scored breakaway goals. Moving forward, can the Flyers become a legitimate transition threat again but also maintain their improved D-zone coverage?
  • We look at the growth of Foerster, Emil Andrae, and Zegras.
  • What should the Flyers do with Nikita Grebenkin? The status quo of regular scratches is untenable both for the young player and the team. At what point should the team recall the red-hot Alex Bump or Denver Barkey? Is there a risk of “losing” the young player if Grebenkin gets demoted to the AHL again?
  • Jason breaks down why Vladar has been so successful in goal so far this season.
  • Porter Martone has been outstanding so far in his first (likely only) college hockey season. How soon might he be ready to make an NHL impact?
  • Can the Flyers parlay their system depth on wing into a trade to fill a upper-blueline need or acquire a legit top-two center?
  • We recap this weekend’s celebration of life in honor of Bernie Parent.

Phantoms Report: Lehigh Valley Defeats Hartford

The Lehigh Valley Phantoms (11-5-2) earned a comeback 3-2 road win over the Hartford Wolf Pack on Saturday. Lehigh Valley trailed, 2-0, entering the third period. Thereafter, John Snowden’s team erupted for three goals in the first 7:04 of the frame. Denver Barkey (1g, 1a) tallied the game-winning goal after Christian Kyrou (PPG) and Carl Grundstrom scored. Carson Bjarnason made 17 saves on 19 shots to earn the win.
