Phantoms Lose at Home to WB/S
Coming off a 5-2 home win the Belleville Senators on Saturday night, the Lehigh Valley Phantoms suffered a 4-1 home loss to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins on Sunday. The Phantoms trailed just 2-1 at the second intermission but the Baby Pens pulled away in the final stanza.
Penalty problems continued to plague John Snowden’s team. After going 7-for-7 on the penalty kill in Friday’s opener, the Phantoms found themselves shorthanded five additional times on Sunday. This time, the Phantoms got burned. The Penguins went 2-for-5 on the power play. The Phantoms went 1-for-3 on their power plays.
Defenseman Helge Grans scored an unassisted second period goal for Lehigh Valley’s only goal on Sunday. Making his AHL debut in goal, Carson Bjarnason stopped 26 of 29 shots. Tristan Broz added an empty net goal (second tally of the final period) to seal the win. Samu Tuomaala, a healthy scratch on opening night, joined the lineup on Sunday (three shots on goal, two minor penalties). Meanwhile, Filip Larsson stopped 26 of 27 shots to earn the win in net for the Penguins.
