Flyers Phans of Philly Phantoms

With all eyes on the television for the men’s semifinal round at the 2026 Winter Olympics, the Philadelphia Flyers had an off-day on Friday. Practice resumes at the FTC on Saturday.

Meanwhile, in Milan.Team Canada (Travis Sanheim) and Team Finland (Rasmus Ristolainen) battled for a spot in the gold medal game.

A Nathan MacKinnon short-side goal with 35.2 seconds left in the third period withstood a coach’s challenge for an offside. It capped off a comeback from a 2-0 deficit. Sanheim assisted on the game-tying goal earlier in the period.

The Canadians dominated the final 40 minutes after getting outplayed in the first period. Consequently, Team Canada will play for gold on Sunday against the winner of the USA vs. Slovakia match. Finland plays for bronze.

Roster moves

The Flyers returned defensemen Oliver Bonk and Hunter McDonald to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, along with goaltender Carson Bjarnason. Dan Vladar, whose Czechia team was eliminated in the Olympic quarterfinals on Wednesday, should be available for practice in Voorhees on Saturday.
