September 26, 2026: 9-8? WTF?
MANITOBA BISONS 9
REGINA COUGARS 8
Too bad Regina never uploaded a Hockey Tech Summary for this one. I would really like to know how this happened. Was there a load of penalties so that the whole 3rd period was 3-on-3? Did they use soccer nets? Both sides looked to have respectable goaltending when they played in Winnipeg.
The Bisons finish their Canadian pre-season at 3-1-0, and the Banjo-Cats fall to 1-2-1. The Herd is now off to the Excited States for four games in six days before the regular season starts.
OUT-OF-TOWN SCOREBOARD
ALBERTA GOLDEN BEARS 5
SASKATCHEWAN HUSKIES 2
After sweeping the opposition in Austria, the Banjo-Mutts have now split back-to-back series in the Great White North. Thus, they are 5-2-0 (2-2-0 against the CW). Meanwhile, the Evil Monkeys are 5-1-0 (3-1-0 against the CW).
CALGARY DINOSAURS 4
U.B.C. THUNDERBIRDS 3
(in overtime)
Quick Summary
Calg: B. Lee (19:53 1st) , L. Hauer (04:52 2nd) , S. Oremba (07:18 2nd) , H. Pakkala (03:08 1st OT)
UBC: J. Wright (10:16 2nd) , K. Dowhaniuk (06:44 3rd) , B. Schuurman (10:53 3rd)
Goal: Calg: Pyne (46 shots, 43 saves); UBC: Gee (20 shots, 16 saves)
Good thing I was able to see the summary. The T-irds outshot Bedrock U 46-20. The Dinos amassed a 3-0 lead, on very few shots, 7 minutes into the 2nd period. Is there a goaltending issue in Lotus Land? There were eight roughing penalties and two misconducts in this one.
UBC is now 2-2-2, with tonight’s “point” being their first against non-TWU and BCIHL opposition. The Dinos are 3-3-0 (2-3-0 against the CW) and a win over the OUA’s Waterloo.
MACEWAN GRIFFINS 6
TORONTO VARSITY BLUES 3
Quick Summary
Mac: E. Mercer (19:38 1st) , E. Sundar (01:24 2nd) , E. Sundar (08:15 3rd) , V. Scott (08:35 3rd) , M. Gauld (08:55 3rd) , J. Szabo (17:54 3rd)
Tor: R. Hlusiak (05:02 1st) , I. Holt (18:06 1st) , D. Wightman (12:50 3rd)
Goal: Mac: Onyskiw (31 shots, 28 saves); Tor: Surzycia (18 shots, 16 saves), Fairlie L (18 shots, 15 saves)
The Family Guys completed their sweep of The Big Lemon. The Blahs took a 2-0 lead, but that was followed by 5 straight goals for MacEwan, including 3 goals in 40 seconds of the 3rd period. This makes for a giggity-giggity 4-0-0 record for MacEwan, without having played anybody in the CW. This has also been a rough pre-season for the OUA. The record stands 5-0-0 for the CW, or 0-4-1 from the OUA POV.
MOUNT ROYAL COUGARS 0
ALASKA FAIRBANKS NANOOKS 5
I listened to the end of this game by on-line radio. The live stats link was not operating. One thing I learned is that Alaskans pronounce “Nanooks” as NAN-iks. The radio guys said that the shots-on-goal were 23-22 in favour of the Bluegars. They credited their goaltender, Tyler Shea, who has now shut-out everybody for 170 minutes of play. The Bluegars are now 2-1-1 in pre-season, with only one game played against CW opposition (a win over Calgary).
