The Flyers’ top pair probably doesn’t deserve to rank this low. Travis Sanheim and Cam York have actually controlled a slightly positive share of shots and scoring chances this season. However, Philadelphia is plagued by some of the worst goaltending in the NHL, which has sunk the top pair’s defensive results.
Philadelphia’s top pair has conceded just 2.35 expected goals against per 60, which ranks 10th best in the NHL. But their actual goals-against rate has ballooned to 3.11 per 60 because their on-ice save percentage is just .880.
After the Torts fiasco, York still said he wants to stay in Philly. In the end, whether he does probably depends on how much $$ he wants, and whether another team with a young center would consider some kind of deal.
York has a chance to blossom into a special, long-term defenseman – so whatever center would be coming back in a potential trade needs to have that same upside in my opinion. otherwise I’m not ready to move him for the sake of moving him, even if that means a slight overpay. we don’t exactly have a ton of d prospects knocking down the door.
