Between two games and a few days off, I decided to take a deeper look at what the Chicago Blackhawks roster could look like next summer.

Good read Frenchy but respectfully i believe the hardest part of any rebuild is drafting talented NHL players.

Roster construction is a fair point, like let’s not be the Islanders and draft Schaefer to trade away Dobson? I am so confused by that move.

Anyways for me the fun starts, a skilled faster younger with the compete gene team is matriculating its way onto the ice.

5 years of hoarding the top blue chip prospects in the NHL draft is going to change how teams approach rebuilds.

Thanks for your comment today… You’re absolutely right — the next 9 months are going to be fascinating. Between the Trade Deadline, the Draft, and then UFA, this is exactly where Davidson has to push the Blackhawks into that next phase of the rebuild.

The foundation is there. Now it’s about making the right moves to turn all those blue-chip prospects into a real NHL roster. Big decisions are coming, and it’s going to be fun to watch how it all plays out.

Let’s not forget the cap floor. It will probably be around 78M next season. Puckpedia shows the Hawks at 50M with 15 contracts for next season. 28M to reach the floor. Giving 98 his 12M leaves 16M to reach the floor. Maybe a couple more guys on ELC’s among Frondell/Lardis/Kantserov make the team. 18 contracts 14M to reach the floor.

Mikheyev resigned IMO at 5M. Maybe on D, Murphy also re-upped or a UFA at 5M to provide some veteran depth on the blue line. Still 4M short of the floor. I wouldn’t be surprised if KFC trades for another LTIR candidate ala Weber. Tory Krug or Pietroangelo would eat up 6-8M.

Tough loss tonight . Them 1st games at home after a long road trip are a usually nightmare , at least we got a point. Against a very talented team . Knight was the 1st star as fares I could see. Team looked very disjointed in OT . Oh well shake it off and beat Toronto.

Actually, if you have a good scouting team it should not be hard to find talent, especially with all the darts the Hawks have had so far. The hard part is coming up, as some of the young Dmen will no longer be waiver exempt. Who does KD keep and who does he move, as you dont want to lose guys like Allan, EDM, KK, and Kaiser to waivers, and I’m not even counting Artie and Rinzel because they’re for sure keeper, unless KD gets blown away. The goalies are next in line and eventually the young forwards. We are about to find out how this all plays out.
