I suspect the Habs were worried (rightly so) their PK might suffer this season, with the loss of Dvorak and Armia.
Unfortunately, Voleno seems mediocre/below average in the face-off dot, one of Dvorak’s strong points, but is left handed (along with Newhook), which the Habs needed.
Low risk signing that might find a niche in the lineup.

The article was half written by someone else because they wanted to get the news on the site quickly. You’re absolutely right. I think at best it gives the Habs the option to not rush a Kapanen into the lineup either.
He’s not replacing Dvorak as a faceoff guy, that’s for sure.

That pretty much sums up his whole career since he played junior.
He has all the tools, he’s not looking out of place on the ice, but the results just aren’t there.
I think he needs to find a place where his role is better defined so he can become more effective in said role. Maybe St-Louis is the guy to put him on the right track moving forward.

Anyways, it was nice here since Friday (a little rain, not much), windows open, big fluffy clouds or clear skies, fresh air.
Been enjoying heading out on the bike to the ice cream shop or just walking over to the park with a book and relaxing.
This is the kind of summer weather I could learn to love.
Back to heat dome on Thursday though.

My son spent his weekend with both Waite brothers (one former and the other still goaltender coach in the NHL).
Stéphane Waite might be a terrible informer, but my god these guys know what to do with goaltenders. The work they put in for two days was something else. My boy is absolutely fired up for his upcoming season.

I remember when I went to hockey camp, we had Scotty Bowman come one day to talk about whatever (cannot recall, probably went over my head), and then Bob Gainey came and worked with the forwards and Larry Robinson with the defensemen.
I was never that great a player, but it was one of the best times of my early years.

i never got any pro player instruction but i do remember meeting ron hextall when i was like 19. i was a lot attendant at a big car dealership and he was in there looking at a vintage mercedes. i shook his hand and said “nice game last night” (iirc, he’d made 32 saves and beat the rangers). his handshake is like a vice. i thought i might need x-rays. -

Been re-watching the Last of Us, from season 1 onwards before I watch season 2 for the first time, so that tracks.
Busy putting together my weekly 5 Song playlist for Spotify, will add an Ozzy track this week even if I was a peripheral fan.
On Episode 249, next week is a big one, have to think hard about what I want in that one.
So that is fun.

i like more of the black sabbath stuff than the solo stuff but there’s definitely some solo stuff that’s worth it like mr. crowley and crazy train.i remember my sister had the ultimate sin record and i found a cassette of no more tears in my mother’s car! i think she liked his interviews on howard stern and then she found the reality show and she used to laugh her ass off at that.

Yeah, the TV show is likely what made him more popular than the music, it also humanized him and showed his sense of humour.

it seems like a lot of the losers didn’t come over for some reason. a lot of them did (see that leafs thread you mentioned) but a lot of them seem to either not know about the new site or didn’t want to make the switch. which is good for us.i think this site can’t help but be better because they are posting hockey news and stories, not a bunch of rumor bullshit or trying to claim they know what’s going to happen and have scoops.

last time we had brisket, burgers, brats, macaroni salad, cole slaw, and a bunch of different salads. oh and chicken but nobody you knew.the place is great. the backyard basically has a second, luxury kitchen in it on a big patio. the grill is some kind of crazy industrial outdoor-cook-anything-machine. there’s all kinds of appliances and equipment. and it’s all connected by a countertop to work on. it’s crazy. they really know how to cook and they’re pretty into it. and thank god for it because everything is always delicious.
