ParticipantThe Chicago Blackhawks may still be near the bottom of the standings, but if you ask general manager Kyle Davidson, this season is already a step forw

Participant“We have very talented players,” he said. “They’re young, but they can handle NHL-level systems. We’re not putting training wheels on. We’re teaching them to play like the team we want to become.”
I really like this statement. They are now going through teams making an adjustment to the system they are running. It is so much better to watch these talented kids take their lumps than it is place holders who are old and slow.
Tough road trip, hoping they can win tonight, team needs one

ParticipantThanks for your comment. Yes, they got the win tonight — and what a game. Knight was unbelievable, and the whole team stuck with their structure from start to finish. This group never quits. Bedard is the engine, but every night someone else steps up beside him. Tonight it was Knight and Bertuzzi. Now the road trip sits at 1-2-1, and if they can grab one more win before heading home, finishing 2-3-1 would be a great result.

ParticipantGreat read coach. Love how the season’s going. One thing about Bedard that rings out to me other than his skill on the ice is his determination. He seems to be one that keeps on striving to improve. He knew what he wanted to improve in the off-season, his speed, and it definitely shows. The cadence of his strides has increased as he skates through the neutral zone. McDavid is a guy you’ll notice with a high cadence with his strides. It’s like a high revving engine.
Bedard has also been improving at the dot this season. No longer a push-over.
Perhaps when people saw Bedard at a young age and labelled him a generational talent, they saw the skill, but they also understood the kid’s mindset. Crosby, MacKinnon and McDavid all seem to have that kind of determination. Hopefully Bedard follows suit.

ParticipantFirst, thank you for the great comment. Really strong points about Bedard. You’re right, his drive to learn and improve stands out. He knew exactly what he needed at the end of last season, and he came back stronger. His faceoffs and shot attempts have taken a real step forward. No doubt in my mind he will become an elite NHL player. Once he’s surrounded by stronger wingers, he’ll take another big jump.
