Well, the draft is just over 24 hours away.

I thought it would be fun to see what everyone’s (somewhat) crazy predictions on what the Habs might do over the next two weeks – draft, trades, and UFA.

      Here are my crazy predictions:

      1) The Habs will trade at least 1 of their first round picks They traded both in the Dobson deal!

      2) The Habs (if they keep at least 1 first round pick) will draft one of Spence, Bear, Nesbitt, or Lakovic, if they have both their picks, they will take a reach on Zharovsky or a defenceman (Reid or Fiddler) This will obviously not happen

      3) In the second round, they will draft either Wang or Nestrasil (Depending on if they took a forward or defence with their first round)

      4) They will trade for Rasmus Anderson – The went out and got Dobson, signed to 8 year deal! WOW

      5) They will sign Granlund

      6) They will let Armia walk

      7) They will let Dvorak walk, unless they do not find a center (ie: no Granlund or trade), on a cheap 1-2 year contract, and the Dach / Newhook experiment probably continues.

      8) If they sign Dvorak, and do not get a center, they will go get a top 6 winger.

      9) The Habs will trade Laine

      10) They will try to sign Jake Allen, but likely end up with some other veteran backup goalie.

      CC – Suzuki – Slaf
      Dach – Granlund – Demidov
      J. Andersonn – Newhook- Gallagher
      Heineman – Evans – Kapanen

      Hutson-R. Anderson
      Mattheson-Ghule
      WiFi/Struble-Carrier

      Monty
      Allen/Vet Back-up

Jason Bukala’s Mock Draft over on Sportsnet has the Habs drafting:

      16. Montreal Canadiens (from CGY): Justin Carbonneau, RW, 6-foot-1, 191 pounds, Blainville-Boisbriand Armada (QMJHL)

      17. Montreal Canadiens: Jack Nesbitt, C, 6-foot-4, 185 pounds, Windsor Spitfires (OHL)

Also, lots of chatter around the Habs on Twitter / Media that they are looking to do something big.

IF the Habs trade for Dobson, my guess:

Mattheson (making cap room), Reinbacher, one of the 1sts, one of the 3rds

      for

      Dobson (signed) and a 4th

      Guhle – Dobson
      Hutson – Carrier
Wifi / Struble / UFA Vet signing

John Tavares signs a four-year extension with the #leafs carrying a $4.38M AAV.

Cross him off the list (not that he was going to play anywhere else than Toronto).

That is an absolutely incredible contract. Wish more players where like that instead of being mercenaries and using their hometown teams as barganing chips to get top dollar.

For Dobson, I think both firsts, and one of Matheson, or Mailloux.

      Perhaps.

      Or a 1st and a 2nd.

I would prefer Mailloux be part of the deal, but I think it will be Reinbacher.

I doubt it’s Reinbacher because he will apparently be part of the management + players team that will be representing Montreal during the draft. Obviously things can change quickly though.

      DAY 2 PREDICTIONS!

      – Habs move up to get Malcom Spence (but keep their other second round pick)
      – Habs draft Alexander Zharovsky with thier other second (49th)

I expect a bit of shuffling of picks, but no major trades today.

There is also Fiddler, but not sure they go for a defenseman in the 2nd, but we will see, he is a big boy at 6’4″ (or what we call, 3 full Pats).

Sorta right… they traded both their picks, but did draft Zharovsky.

Next Habs picks are int he 3rd round: 79, 81 and 82,

I expect some movement on these, maybe pick up a late 2nd or 2026 draft capital.

Boston trading into 69 from Montreal for 79 & 108

      Moved up in the 3rd.

      Another big body, unsurprisingly.

I wonder if the Habs will use those back-to-back picks at #81 and #82.

      I smell another trade coming.

Guess they were happy with who was at their picks.
