Thumbs up to this article, it’s a good overview of where the Leafs are and what they need to do moving forward. The only thing I’ll say is they need to build a team to beat a team LIKE the Panthers because even if the Panthers lose some key pieces and regress simply getting to the ECF is not a guarenteed cup win as Florida is the template most teams are now using to build their teams out. They will need to essentially build a team that can beat multiple teams that play and are built like this current Panthers team.

It’s doable but changes must be made to get there.

I think emotions are running high in Leaf Nation and many people are discounting just how f-ing good Florida is.

This Panthers roster is a buzzsaw, just like Tampa was in the Covid era. Marchand is on their third line FFS. They have a solid roster full of depth from top to bottom. Multiple Selke candidates.

Losing in seven games to this buzzsaw is not an epic fail in and of itself. It was how they lost that is hard to stomach – no pushback, no fire, no anger, no snot at all except Domi and Benoit.

So yeah, this team needs more work. The Core failed yet again. This series was winnable up until Florida woke up while trailing in game 3 and Toronto couldn’t find the higher gear to match that intensity.

Frustrating? Absofuckinglutely. Burn it all down? No.
