ParticipantIt confirms indirectly that this was never a rebuild by confirming their plans all along were to get their best players through Free agency. It’s the Flyers way. Hence all quotes and PR articles that the rebuild was over(i mean they were going to push for the playoffs, or wait, the STH letter said the playoffs were in sight) was over at the beginning of the year.
Unfortunately, 3 seasons and 4 drafts after DB took the reigns, the EZ button has disappeared with the FA market drying up. What should the Flyers do now that the Flyers plans to just throw more money at players than other teams could afford, is out the window?
Well, apparently, it still isn’t to draft the players as Jones did not mention drafting as a solution.
Now, not that i think the Flyers should’ve gotten Quinn Hughes when he was available earlier in the season, but the Flyers FO own incompetence did not allow them to be in the running. I think very much if they could’ve without gutting the team they would’ve liked to because you know, this season was all about the playoffs (again the STH letter among other comments) and he is very much the type of player the Flyers are missing. Just ask Minnesota but MIN was able to make the trade for a young player at an important position because they already had a younger player playing that position who was coveted by other teams.
Whether or not Zeev lives up to his potential at this point is irrelevant, he was the cornerstone player in acquiring a young norris winning defenseman and conensus pick of everyone who wasn’t employed by the Flyers on draft day. The Flyers had no such asset to trade, BY CHOICE, so their only alternative is to throw money at players when they hit FA. Nobody thinks highly of Jett, except the fluff pieces by comcast affiliated writers. Jett was not considered to be a cornerstone for the trade, not even a secondary piece, he was considered to be at best a possible tertiary piece and even then wasn’t required.
The Flyers love their 200 ft players and grinders (Hathaway and ND say hi) over talent and wonder why they have trouble developing a talented team. This doesn’t even include the coaching which, as we’ve all seen, can derail players or not give them opportunity to grow.
The Flyers lucked into Martone, who while talented is still not a foundational piece, because the FO and coaching failed badly last year. Something Torts admitted by saying he didn’t want to coach the team with the players he had last year. They basically failed upwards.
All along they thought they wouldn’t have to do anything difficult, just bide their time and wait for the cap to clear up to buy talent. With plenty of depth players who played the right way and ingrained in Flyers culture.
If the Flyers somehow end up with a top 5 pick and can land a potential foundational player, just remember this isn’t by design, it would be by incompetence.
Either way the FO wins as long as they don’t end up in the mushy middle. Playoffs or a player to build around. If they get an elite talent, the fans better hope he isn’t Russian because Tocchet isn’t going anywhere.

Participant“Jonesy” is a straight up 100% liar. They were always banking on free agency with the cap increase and “space”.
he is the fn president, to claim he didn’t know is just a bad look and should be fired on the spot. if it were true he didn’t know which of course is bullshit. he knew
what he also fails to mention is none of the top end players were going to sing with this shit franchise.

ParticipantAmid the Flyers’ disastrous skid, head coach Rick Tocchet has become quite the unpopular figure. It’s gotten to the point where some people are looking upstairs at the general manager, wondering if the rebuild plan can succeed.
..
The overarching point was that the Flyers may have to start the rebuild all over again because the team still lacks key pieces like a top-line center and a No. 1 defenseman. It was a gloomy, but fair, assessment of the Orange and Black.More of an opinion piece but he’s not wrong. Pretty much everything that could go wrong with a poorly conceived and executed plan has gone wrong since DB thought they were going to make the playoffs in 2024 and so threw bags of money, the amount of which raised eyebrows, at Fedotov to come over from Russia to save the Flyers season. A win now move for the playoffs.
Of course it all makes sense since they never intended to do a rebuild and were just biding their time to open up the checkbook.

ParticipantThe Tocchet hire just keeps looking worse and worse by the day.
His answer to the Michkov question at the carnival was completely unhinged.

Participantlook at who is running the flyers:
Hilf
Jonesy
Briernext zero experience. Briere is a Flecther disciple to boot. Imagine peeps having confidence in these 3 amigos. This is without even bringing up the coaching hire.
