It amazes me how some of these players work hard for the big contract, then they get domesticated. They get married, have children and get too comfortable. The fire is on low, inside their gut and they worry about getting the kids off to school and end up doing the honey do list. The more I look at the trajectory of this team, the more it screams rebuild. The Leafs have 2 elite players, but neither will be useful when the team is in playoff contention. It’s imperative, that the Leafs use these two players to get younger, faster and more hungry. The ping pong effect about hiring the Hunter’s seems to be something worth exploring. If the Leafs are going into rebuild, shouldn’t they hire a Coach and General Manager that knows Junior Hockey? Unless they lose their last 6 games, they’re going to give up a top 10 first. It’s important that they get a first this year and start rebuilding their farm system. If the rebuild is to come, maybe they should consider moving both Stolarz and Woll, then rely on their goaltending strength in the AHL going forward. Hildeby is a keeper and so is the young Russian Akhtyamov. Time to start getting their ducks in a row and move forward.
