So if Nylander is out, why can’t Stolarz come back to the team? They should just end this silly internal suspension for Stolarz or trade him.

Fire ArmstrongYes indeed, they both deserve it because they role the play will be important. Cirelli is a shutdown center, his offense is irrelevant but he still has more points than Point (more on that later). Stone doesn’t have to score either, he just needs to steal pucks and be a solid two-way role player. He can play anywhere in the line-up, on the PP, on the PK; literally a Swiss army knife.
Unfortunately, because Cooper is the coach, his pets Hagel and Point are on the team even though they haven’t been playing the best. Bedard has been better than both of them and a much harder player to stop or contain. His injury, apparently, had nothing to do with his omission so they’re just stupid. Hagel hasn’t been so bad this year but Point isn’t even in the top 50 in scoring with a pathetic 6 goals and 21 points and -5 in 31 games. Even Scheifele, Johnston, Tavares, Stamkos, Kadri, ROR, RNH, Bennett, Jarvis, Thomas and Hyman have more points. That’s pretty bad. Point should have been cut on merit and now he’ll have to prove that he’s the 50 goal, playoff beast he was 4 years ago and not the garbage he’s been playing like this year.
Not a huge fan of Suzuki either. His points are fine but he’s going to be the 3C so his FO% is a bit low and he’s not the biggest or strongest guy up the middle. He doesn’t really play on the PK either. I would have definitely left him off the team, made Horvat the 3C and bring in Bennett. That’s the biggest mistake by far. Canada was afraid to bring too many guys who take penalties but Bennett is a winner, he was worth that risk.
The D is mostly as expected, they didn’t roll the dice with Schaefer, which is disappointing because he’s way better suited for this tournament than Sanheim. They also snubbed Chychrun which is disappointing because he has 15 goals in 39 games, #1 in goals among defenders and he’s got no spot. Josh Morrissey should have been left at home because he’s not really the best at any role on this team.
The goalies, they got right. Canada has an obvious weakness in net but Thompson has been playing like a Vezina candidate so hopefully he’s the starter and that continues. Binnington made the team on history but he’s proven that when everything is on the line, he can play way better than expected. Kuemper makes sense as the 3rd string goalie or as a starter too. I think I’m okay with him in any role with how he’s been playing. All three guys have a Stanley Cup in various roles so while Canada won’t have the absolute best goaltending in the tournament, they will have competent goaltending. With the team in front of them, they won’t have to steal many games, they just have to not lose you the game.

I’ve always liked Woll as a goalie but until he can stay on the ice for an entire season, he’ll always be a liability as your “starter”.
Between him and Stolarz, it just feels like they’re both back-ups filling in until the previous guy gets back from injury.
Ask yourself, how many games have BOTH Stolarz and Woll been on the ice as starter and back-up to each other? I’d wager very few out of the total possible games. Probably less than 40%.
