This is how Team Canada should have been.
Point has been playing terrible (not even top 50 in points, only 6 goals) and should be cut. Suzuki isn’t good enough offensively to be a top-six center (very difficult to supplant McDavid, Crosby, MacKinnon etc.) and defensively, isn’t exactly a big, strong, shutdown PKer. Bringing those two are the biggest mistakes up front. Bennett should be there, he’s a big game performer and Bedard is electric if he has two stable guys beside him who can cover for his defensive shortfall which Horvat and Stone could do easily. Bedard on a 3rd line is like a secret weapon you can punish teams with less depth.

Chychrun and Bouchard should be on the team in some capacity. Chychrun has 15 goals half way through the season. That is a PP weapon that absolutely helps you win tight games. Bouchard is a problem defensively but he’s such a weapon on the PP that in a tight game, you could use that to be a difference maker. If he played beside a stable partner like Theodore, he’d be a weapon. Both guys, plus Makar and possibly Schaefer, give you 4 guys who can bust a game open on special teams. Parayko is solid defensively but he has 0 goals this season. You have to replace his booming shot on the PP with guys that are getting results.

Theodore | DoughtyEX: Schaefer | Bouchard
*Add Sanheim to the 3rd pair if Toews can’t make it, Theodore goes to the top pair. Schaefer and Bouchard slot in vs weaker teams to attack them.
Thompson is playing like a Vezina goalie, he wins the net on the opening game, but any one of these three could become a starter. All three have won a Cup in some capacity and Binnington, as bad as he has been on a bad team, can step up big when it matters.
