The PP is dog shit because Marc Savard is an idiot who has no idea how to run a PP. They also lost Marner and replaced him with dog shit. The PP will continue to be shit especially in the playoffs.

Marner had 228 powerplay points (23 playoff PP points, #1 among all Leafs during that time) in all his years in Toronto, #1, more than Nylander and Matthews, so no, if the PP was shit it wasn’t because the #1 PP producer was shit.

Yeah, I fully get the intense media in Toronto when it comes to the Leafs. If you’re mentally weak at all, it’ll become an issue for you. My only counterpoint is, if the team was better constructed with depth and talent, as in not so top heavy, I don’t think the attention would be there, all on one player. Marner had 383 points in 302 games over the past four seasons, he also had 38 points in 38 playoff games, so he was earning his money. But he’s more of a complimentary player, he’s not gonna drive the bus in the playoffs, he’s gonna matter, but he’s not that type of guy to drive the bus all by himself, at least in my opinion, that’s on Leafs management for those expectations.For years I’ve heard Shanny didn’t build a deep enough team for the playoffs, they’re a fun dynamic offensive team in the regular season, but they were never going to find success in the playoffs with their top heavy roster and their style of play. And that pretty much played out over the past seven years, where they got past the 1st round once. On top of that, I don’t think they’re better this year than they were last year, which is a problem, for y’all.
Sadly when it came to Marner his talent was never the question, it was the fits he had from time to time, had them in junior as well, but London is in SW Ontario too… same BS for teens but thankfully not as intense.
And yeah, The Leafs were built without any space to adapt the cap lockdown due to Covid, JT’s contract always seemed high because of that. Long term contracts of stars always seem high the first couple of years, then decent the next 3, then reasonable for the last couple. The lockdown left him high for the first 4 and then decent for the last 3, which always felt high. They needed to give up Mitch or Matthews sadly to balance things back out and the current GM and coach prefer Matthews. Anyone who thinks Nylander or Marner is loonie, Marner would have cost close to $4 mill more in Ontario than Willie so no, it wasn’t him.

The problem was the garbage that filled the rest of the roster. The Leafs refused to get rid of the garbage like Tavares, Rielly, Jarnkrok, Kampf etc. and refused to pay and retain an elite, two-way player then elected to replace him with 3rd and 4th liners. It won’t end well for the Leafs as this team is worse and won’t be getting better.

I think he will win a Cup in Vegas, maybe not immediately just because it does take teams time to come together but he wouldn’t be the first or the last. Most Leafs fans are still in denial about the Kadri disaster. That was probably the beginning of the end for this era. They had a high value player for a low cost and were too stupid to realize it. He was exactly what they needed more of in the playoffs and just did what the Leafs always do; cave to the dumbest in the fan base and the media and threw him away for garbage in return.
