WHIPPER
ParticipantThe solution is this:
Joshua | Matthews | Nylander
Knies | Tavares | Domi
McMann | Roy | Maccelli
Lorentz | Jarnkrok | RobertsonI actually really like this. I’m sure Chief will figure out a lineup that works better than what it looks like at the moment.

ParticipantThe solution is this:
Joshua | Matthews | Nylander
Knies | Tavares | Domi
McMann | Roy | Maccelli
Lorentz | Jarnkrok | RobertsonSo long as Matthews doesn’t mind being the passer of his line and not the shooter (he can do both), and Knies would have to do more physical board work and let JT still park his ass in front of the net. Minor tweaks but if those two guys made those adjustments I could see that working.

ParticipantAbsolutely don’t like this line-up at all.
1st line isn’t dangerous enough. 2nd line is a defensive mess. 3rd line is small, not tough or strong enough to be a shut down line. Roy is getting paid A LOT to be a 4th liner when he was supposed to be the new shut down 3C.
When Laughton returns, Quillan or Blais go down and one of Robertson or Jarnkrok goes to the press box. Cowan belongs with the Marlies for now.
When it comes to the 1st line Matthews looked good this preseason. If he truly was hurt last season and is back to being more like he was he’ll be dangerous. As for his linemates so long as Knies keeps moving forward I do think that line will be fine.
Second line… Nylander is the offensive weapon, JT does have offensive talent just no speed so let him lean towards the offensive side of the neutral zone. This will work so long as McMann can play a very strong two way game and there is a VERY big question mark when it comes to that.
That 3rd line sucks defensively, I sincerely hope this is for nothing more than to sell Robertson. Line him up with a couple passers, let him score a few times in the first 10 games and get the best return they can for him.
Line 4, an over priced C who hopefully gets bumped back up to where he belongs when Laughton is back, I like Lorentz as well, I’m hoping they either sell off Järnkrok for something decent once Blais gets to know Berube’s Leaf game better. At least they’re still better than the current line 3 though.

ParticipantHow come when I say it I’m a troll?
The Leafs are taking a MASSIVE step back this year.
And their top players are injury prone.
The Leafs weren’t good enough last season to win a cup, they definitely aren’t now.
No prospects, no future. No plan, no track record of success. Total clusterf*ck.
I’ve been saying for a couple years that they’re going down the wrong path. Before Bennett is the established winner and warrior he is now I was screaming from the rooftops to trade for him. I hated the Kadri trade and been saying since he left they need to get him back. Nylander isn’t the type of player you pin your hopes on, but for whatever reason the Leafs did that. They lost their best player this summer and replaced him with *checks notes* Maccelli?!? Insane.
Anyways. You’s got what you all wanted, and now you’ll all just have to accept being the laughing stock of the league until they draft 1st overall again in 8-10 years and restart the process all over again.
The next window is in 15-20 years. Have fun with that.

ParticipantThat 3rd line looks just brutal under Berube’s style of hockey, a couple of midgets with a big winger on a recovery season. Here’s hoping Robertson keeps scoring since his linemates will pass to him basically non stop very predictably *shakes head*
As for Cowan, it’s the right call. If all he will be for the leafs is a 12/13th type guy put him on the Marlies. Only make him a leaf if he’s a full time top 12 guy at the VERY bare minimum.

ParticipantNow that the dust has settled, here is Toronto’s projected cap-compliant roster to start 2025-26:
Knies – Matthews – Maccelli
McMann – Tavares – Nylander
Joshua – Domi – Robertson
Lorentz – Roy – Järnkrok
Extras: Quillan, Blais
IR: LaughtonRielly – Carlo
McCabe – Tanev
Ekman-Larsson – Benoit
Extra: MyersStolarz
Primeau
Non-roster: WollThat 3rd line looks just brutal under Berube’s style of hockey, a couple of midgets with a big winger on a recovery season. Here’s hoping Robertson keeps scoring since his linemates will pass to him basically non stop very predictably *shakes head*

ParticipantI think once Laughton comes back, Cowan will be brought up. Berube really liked that 4th line.
Unless someone who is filling in performs well in the interim. That or Treliving is trying to sell some players and is essentially forcing his coach to play them.

ParticipantI think we’ll see Cowan in first 5 or 6 games. Berube is going to want to try different guys and different combos before Laughton comes back.
He’s already a Marlie. I doubt we see him until Laughton is back. Treliving sent him down as soon as he practiced in a grey jersey.
The Leafs already had too many forwards, now they added Sammy Blais. Cowan is way down the list.
The Leafs still need another RHD and need a back-up because without Woll, the Leafs are one very likely Stolarz injury away from missing the playoffs.
