ParticipantThe returns suggested for Matthews are pure fantasy. His contract is an albatross. He is not even in the ballpark of performing up to that contract.
At some point, people will wake up and realize that we just don’t see him ripping pucks past frozen goaltenders anymore. I don’t know if it is injuries or not, but he used to be the most lethal player in the league and he is nowhere near that now and hasn’t been for a couple years.
If he has lost his lethal shot fine, he can still skate, handle the puck, and pass extremely well. Berube’s should have a chat with him, tell him to pass the puck more and put Nylander on his wing. Sure he’ll still get his “in tight” goals but you get what I’m saying.
But I agree he isn’t looking like he used to yet and it’s not from a lack of chances so he’s still getting the puck fed to him just fine.
I think the tough part is that it seems like an injury, but obviously one that they can’t address and just isn’t going to get better 🙁

ParticipantLiving rent free in both your heads. The Jays were saved by Springer from the typical Game 7 disaster that haunts Toronto teams. Good for him. Great for the Jays. They overachieved this year and worked their way to the World Series. But now they play a team that would have to throw their season away to lose. The Dodgers are stacked. Ohtani is their #4 pitcher at this point. It’s going to be a miracle to beat the Dodgers. Their pitching is dominant top to bottom and they have the best player of a century. Oh, and of course, in typical Toronto sports fashion, they have a former Blue Jay, Teoscar Hernández, who will probably beat the brakes off them because that’s how Toronto teams roll. I’m sure there will be a lot of butt hurt fans that Ohtani is rolling into town, still angry he didn’t sign in Toronto, but he didn’t even have to play well to beat the Brewers. And they still swept the Brewers. Jays lost 3 games to the Mariners and narrowly got out of Game 7. Dodgers shouldn’t have much trouble at all.
As before, I’d be happy to see the Jays overcome the odds but this is probably where their run ends.
can never enjoy anything, always negative. what a sad loser.

Maybe they themselves are still hoping that it will come around?
If so let’s hope they had the first few number of games already decided for it to do so before adjusting things, like the first 10 or dozen games. As I said if he can accept it, and he turns himself into a primary passer feeding Nylander, that line can become offensively dangerous quickly. It would take some juggling to figure out a new line 2 but oh well.

I will always remember that home run… I literally got up and cheered out loud by myself waking up my gf who had to get up at 5am for work lol. She came out and literally said “you’re lucky it’s a Toronto team succeeding in the playoffs and that you still wake up with me tired as hell to make me breakfast, but you’re done cheering right?” I said “maybe, the game isn’t quite over yet” to which she looked at me with half asleep eyes and said “I’ll put my ear plugs in, goodnight…”, then she looked back towards the bedroom and then back towards me and then said this like she had to: “my love” and then walked away 😂

And you know what? That’s fucking fine! NOBODY expected the Jays to get out of the division, let alone to the big show. The team had a hell of a run, played out of their minds, and did something spectacular. But you STILL find reason to bitch. Only one team wins the championship every year, so every other team is an absolute, utter failure and deserves to be shit on? No wonder you’re such a miserable prick.
I stopped reading most of your back and forth with Cush once you mentioned trading Tavares. Literally, the dumbest suggestion ever, (which is saying something coming from you). He will retire a Leaf, 100%. You just make up bullshit scenarios so that you can bitch that they never happen. Get some new material, or just do everyone a favor and fuck off for good.

ParticipantMan we were talking about the final season of Matthews contract so relax a bit. The D won’t be looking pretty by then, Rielly will be 33, McCabe will be 34, and Tanev will be 37 and all 3 of them will be signed for 2 more years. There will be nothing notable in development since the leafs have nothing notable in the upcoming drafts. I can see Matthews, an American from Arizona, moving on. The team will likely be starting to look like TB is this year so my hope is that he allows a trade in his final year of his contract if so and he doesn’t burn the leafs like Sundin and Marner have.[/quote]
A lot can happen in the next 2.5 years. He’s been in the playoffs every year since he’s been here (hasnt performed that great on a consistent basis), he loves it here and they could still go on a nice playoff run.
The D is already old and will get slower…we all knew that. But if they stay decent they could be moved out for picks or parts if things fall apart…1st rounders?…doubtful. But we’ll see in several years. Some peeps swore up and down that Matthews would be leaving the last time he was an FA, didnt happen, not even close. Could things change, of course, we’ll see. Him and McD will be FA’s that year, could the leafs sign both for team “friendly-ish” deals. Sure why not.
So many things could happen in the next couple of years, no sense going doom and gloom 6 games into this season worrying about the 27/28 season. The leafs have made some bad TDL trades and blew their 1st rounders for the next couple of years, that’s gonna really hurt them (as expected). So I expect a quiet deadline.
But the season has barely begun so not too worried. Heck, nowadays I dont worry about the leafs at all. 🙂October 22, 2025 at 1:14 pm #44205Fakepartofme

Yup, very sad.
The Jays have had an amazing run and year, what an incredible season it has been. Its been so much fun to watch.
Dodgers have lost 69 games this season, they are beatable, heck their season record this year isnt even in the top 10 all time.
The Dodgers are a juggernaut for sure. But you cant count the Jays out, any time I have, theyve quickly proven me wrong. Its been awesome.
Oh and “Springer saved the Jays from disaster”? Your top players are suppose to have top moments and big plays. And from “disaster”? WTF, the Jays were predicted to win 75- 82 games this….the ALCS was all gravy, nowhere near disaster.
He simply has no clue, complains about everything and things that dont even exist.October 22, 2025 at 1:15 pm #44207Fakepartofme

ParticipantSo the Canucks are looking for a Center.
The Leafs have one in the minors.Kampf for Vancouver 4th 2026 or a 3rd in 2027 or a waive pick up…….
I would prefer a few draft picks for him.
Vancouver could be on his no trade list.October 22, 2025 at 1:23 pm #44212WHIPPER
ParticipantGetting back to the Leafs, the team we see this week is not the same team after the TDL. Kampf and Jarny most likely dumped. Laughton (as bad as he’s been) is coming back at some point, and I don’t expect him to be as bad as last year. Matthews and Knies have been called out by the coach, and I expect they’ll get rolling at some point. JT is doing JT things, and Willy is piling up the points. The team had a very similar start last year before winning the division, and they have lots of flexibility to improve. I expect Tre is already working on something to replace Domi on the top line, who knows if it’ll be a HUGE move or a smaller one.
Literally, zero reason to panic.

And as much as I hate to say this the truth is simple. Once his contract is coming to an end he will be in his 30s, will no longer be able
To get everything as a bonus on July 1st and play for league minimum, and the leafs will have nothing really worth mentioning in development yet.I really hate to say this man but the leafs have 5 years tops before a rebuild will be needed. They’re already at a decade for this core, no upcoming good picks, prospects aren’t deep, and the core of this team will be 30+ VERY soon.
It’s going to feel like 2010 again before you know it.

ParticipantMan, JT is at the point where he scores and the leafs still lose. Keep him. He literally IS the Bozak if that’s what you want to call it.
I’m seeing that out of him now tbh, can he play? Yes, does he amplify a linemates game? No.
As for Knies whatever, he won’t look as good without top ten picks on his line, get rid of him when they decide to drop Matthews while he is shiny imo.
And yet those goals could still win some games against bad teams. Also, why keep him when he can get you draft picks or prospects? That’s the same mistake we got stuck with when Sundin refused to waive his NTC. Tavares won’t want to play on a lottery team at 38. He’s still going to want to win a Cup and playing on a trash lottery team doesn’t come before trying to win a Cup.
You’re right about Knies probably does play a lot better with elite line mates and get you a better return but if the Leafs blow up the team and rebuild, but you’ll need him when you have new elite franchise players on ELC and he would still be under 30. And the majority of the team will still be on ELC until he’s 32 which means you can afford to overpay him to stay.
Think of how Chicago had veterans on the team before Kane and Toews showed up. It allowed them to win a Cup a lot faster than expected. I’d rather have Knies at 29 than try to find another one and wait 5 years for him to be ready. If he refuses to play on a tanking Canadian team, you trade him but if you can keep him, you keep him.

Matthews is not injured and has not lost his ability to play or score. He’s just struggling without Marner. His value and his contract would still bring the Leafs a sky high return no matter what some retards think.
Same goes for a lot of other assets the Leafs have. There are teams that overpay at the deadline every, single year. Usually, it’s a team stupid like the Leafs, but there are many others. Teams that are going hard for the playoff run will give up 1st round picks and prospects. The Leafs just have to make the players available.
The Leafs have two chances left. This year (they suck and aren’t going anywhere) and next year. That’s a really small window of opportunity. But that’s all they got left. After that, they have to trade everybody and start the rebuild sooner rather than later. Matthews signed a 4 year deal for a reason. He’s done playing here if there is no chance to win. And it’s hard to blame him after what they did to this team.

So the Leaf victories we can cheer for will be that our goon beats up the other teams goon and we catch a great team on a back to back after 5 games in 6 nights and get a goaltending performance for the ages in a win?
Sign me up!
lol
I still remember the terrible Leafs team in 1983 beating the powerhouse Oilers and Bunny Larocque stopping the great one on a penalty shot.
lol
