He’s one of the few guys whose effort I can’t fault on a night to night basis. He’s pretty steady, was maybe overpaid on his last contract, but is underpaid now.

I think Hutson will have a slower year, than last. The League now has a book on him. He’s not a big player and every team will target him by throwing the puck into the corner and taking the body. He’ll be a Cole Caufield of the defense. Talented but can disappear when the big bodies come after them. Montreal really needs to get some bigger forwards to help out their smaller skilled players.

A lot of people seem to forget he got caught in the overpaid years most long term contracts have due to the cap lock down due to Covid. If that didn’t happen by the end of his contract the cap would have been significantly higher and he wouldn’t have seemed as overpaid at all, I mean come on, he’s still a PPG guy ffs.
So is he a leaf? Yup. He gave them a big time discount because of what happened with his last contract. Sure he has a minor NTC of 5 teams on the last two years but I’m willing to bet that’s not for him to go to a competitor but if he sees that he’s a burden and the leafs need the cap space. He’ll just choose some quiet little place where he won’t get marketed.

ParticipantDidn’t realize Marner was 2nd line in Vegas
Marner is 2nd only to Eichel in ice time among forwards on Vegas.
15 min 5v5, 4 min PP, 1:20 min on PK per game average.
The idea that he’s on the “2nd line” is like saying Draisaitl is on the 2nd line when he’s not playing with McDavid. It’s designed to punish other teams with match-ups.
