I don’t know if is sustainable, but damn. I sure didn’t see this coming. Kindel walks into the NHL and looks like a 5 year vet at 18.

Me and Feds were talking about that today. Pens and Red Wings both in 1st place in their division. What is it, 2009?

I think their are aspects of this play that are sustainable but in my opinion it’s going to come down to goaltending and the special teams. PP and PK are clicking right now and both goalies are playing really well and doing a great job of making the first save, and not having to make that second save because our D is clearing it from the front.

Honestly, the last few games have reminded me of the 2015-16 Pens where they would just trade chances with the other teams and normally come out on top. Their shot share is usually on the wrong side of where you want to be, but their quality chances are exactly where we want to be.

I’ve only seen a couple games but their team play has looked much better, which obviously helps stop hanging out the goalies. And kudos to black Jarry, he’s doing his part. The kindel line has been dominating.

These next 5 games will be a good test though. I don’t think a 106 pdo is sustainable.

The process right now is quite good and there’s no quit. Even if we’re generally outplayed, we’ll turn it up and absolutely dominate for a stretch and get on the board. As you say, high danger chances are where you want them to be so it’s not like we’re getting buried and then lucking into cheap goals that are inflating our win percentage. We aren’t dominant and susceptible to losing the flow of momentum, but we are resilient as hell and playing good system hockey. That should generally be sustainable.

What I’m not sure is sustainable is the conditioning. Our stars and core are super old and Kindle is 18 and brand new to the grueling pace of the nhl season, as the geezers and the kid start to get miles on their tires, play could seriously drop

I’m not worried about PDO right now. Goaltending could take a bit of a dip and we’d still be perfectly fine.

One thing that I think will benefit a team of old guys and rookies is that fact muse is actually rolling 4 lines. That’s a lot of miles over the course of the year not on sod and Geno.

Sully was notorious for rolling 4 lines, even in the most inopportune times — but Muse actually has 4 lines playing well. It’s the D/Goalies we have to worry about.

I’m honestly surprised by where we are in the standings considering the D we have and Jarry is still playing half the games. Pleasant surprise though.

Hope Geno plays another year, provided he keeps up solid play. Even old Gemini’s gonna be a massive hole to fill. Ovi seems to have fell off a cliff this year.

This kid is the real deal. Dubas stole him in the draft. Get him a real winger.

Lol…just reuse any of the plethora of reasons why Geno or Jake suck.

I’m overjoyed to admit I was dead f’n wrong about that pick. Whoever scouted Kindel and talked us into taking him absolutely nailed it. Kid is gonna be special.

Anyone else feel like we’re playing last year’s Pens in Blue jerseys tonight. Man the Leafs look dead and buried.

Yes! Although they haven’t given us 10 odd-man breaks. They look like a team whose window has closed.

Yeah, I jinxed the hell out of that. Just glad Matt’s not around to yell at me for it lol.

Despite the horrible 3rd period, still came away with one small positive…the absolute attitude adjustment. For way too many years in games like that needed a goal in the 3rd it was:
Sully “you kids might as well hit the showers now because you ain’t sniffing the ice again tonight”

      Now it’s:
Muse “you kids keep taking your regular shifts and in fact, let’s double shift the 18 year old with Sid or Geno and send him out there when we pull the goalie”.

I’m here Pags66. Way to F us like that hahaha

Pens played a perfect f’n game of hockey for 40 mins. Sucks to lose that one but I do think this team has a different feel to it, for sure, and they will learn from this. Jarry had to save a few of those. If he does, Pens win.

First two periods were great. Even the post-game whipping boys of Pickering and Brunike looked good through the first two frames and then just ate shit in the final frame.

That said they’ve both earned a demotion.

Pickering might just not be very good but we need to keep giving him looks this year to make sure. Send him down to the A and let him work towards the next promotion to see if he can get his head on right.

Brunike didn’t pass the test this year. Really what he needs is the AHL but that’s not in the cards unfortunately. Gotta send him down to minors as shitty as it is. He’s not ready

Pens need wings. Rust is fading. Rak out another 6+ weeks. Koiv isn’t doing much. Hallander isn’t top 6. Unfortunately we had to call up Heinen instead of a young prospect. I’d rather see Avery Hayes get a look.

Rust has 11 points in 12 games, scoring at a top line rate per 60 at 5 on 5, and still a relative play driver although he’s fallen off in that category. Hes having some trouble coming across goals right now but that’s a sample size issue. No hes not in his prime anymore but he’s still a dude.

Rak injury hurts us but where we are in the timeline we shouldn’t be going out searching for wings. This team is going to do what it can do. Dubas won’t get in the way of success if the team finds it but he’s not going to go all in on this season either.

      Kindel-Crosby-Rust
      Mantha-Malkin-Novak
      Tomasino-Heinen-Koivunen
      Dewar-Lizotte-Hallander/Hayes

      Wotherspoon-Karlsson
      Shea-Letang
      Graves-Clifton
      Dumba-Brunicke

Interesting line shuffle. Koi isn’t scoring but the kindel line was absolutely crushing it as a whole. I noticed Sid and malkin together a lot last game as well. Hallander can’t hack the first line. Rust is doing well while coming back from injury, hopefully he’s got another gear. But man the e last couple years Sid’s line has been giving up a ton of GA it seems.

Heinen is the ahl point leader and he deserves the call. As much as I want little Hayes RW or broz, hopefully Heinen earns himself a trade followed by big Hayes. Acciari can ride the pine pony for the rest of the year I suppose.

Agree with this. We are still sellers. If Geno doesn’t come back that is a massive hole to fill which trickle down the lineup at centre. Or maybe he comes back and falls off a cliff. Sid is getting older. We have eff all for real wingers. Rust and rak when healthy. Maybe Brazeau/mantha. Realistically at would rank the Crosby line as an elite 2nd line propped up a bit by Sid. Genos line a 3rd line. So find an entire first line, piece together a 4th out of the leftovers, 2 elite LD and I’d say we have a shot. Otherwise stick with the plan and rebuild. No finding wings.

      Man I’m over caffeinated today.

His hockey IQ and vision more than make up for the half step of speed he may be lacking. He’s probably the smartest teen I’ve seen since…his current linemate.

hahaha seems they may have learned from that Leafs game. Whereas the past handful of seasons you would get this feeling they were going to blow a lead and loss every game haha. They would have so much trouble closing out games.

We’re getting some good entertainment early on in this season, that cant be debated, and as fan that’s what we ask for.

A 38 year old leading the league in goals and a 39 year old leading the league in assists is pretty insane. It wont be this way when all 82 games conclude but its very impressive nonetheless.

Man one thing I hate about watching hockey at the gym is you can’t yell at the TV without looking like a lunatic.

I love letang. But fuck. If you’re make make such a high danger pass put some muscle or some sauce on it.

I’m liking mantha. Solid off season pickup. These I find are the difference makers. It’s almost never the big overpaid players. Those contracts always look bad.

Kindel is a little bulldog on the puck. He’s gonna be a beast once he’s bulked up in a couple years.

Yup, explains why he was so available. Was wondering today after OT…are teams still allowed to use either goalie in the SO, or has that changed? If so, might be time to start thinking about that going forward.

Yeah they need to start practicing this. At least he’s a good goalie the rest of the game and there’s no shootouts in the playoffs.

Boys must be tired today. Went with a dump and chase type of game today, hope they learnt it didn’t go well. Sid’s line needs to learn to play D.
