Whelp that was a garbo playoff game.

As Nylander said “They owned us tonight so now we gotta go there and try to do the same”.

Put Knies with Nylander and JT.

Boy, they’re acting like jilted lovers over on the Buzz. They don’t even want to talk hockey to people over here. Too bad. Their IQ has sailed and their life preserver is an inch over the waterline. I remember when TMLFan Boards went belly up about 20 years. Same MO. Disagree with people and then get them banned. In my case, for Life. All because I made a statement that Mats Sundin and his Muskoka 5 teammates colluded to not waive their no trade clauses and the team would be irreparably damaged. That got me a lifetime ban and it wasn’t too many months later, that site imploded. History may soon repeat itself.

Dont waste your time even giving that site any clicks.

Don’t worry too much about the nonsense factor in here. At least we’re objective over here and can actually make a cognitive hypothesis. The clown posse over there have destroyed what was a great website. Losing professional hockey writers is a death knell for that site, if they don’t put some guide lines into effect. Hopefully, they finally figure it out and try to turn the nose of that 787 up before the crater effect. Princey

I know you’re trying to be positive but I think that 787 is about 100 feet from making that crater.

Just like Ottawa wouldn’t quit (which you were wrong about) when the Leafs had a series lead, the Panthers sure as hell won’t either.

I never ever said they’d quit (but keep putting words in people’s mouths). I never said it would be easy. I believed the leafs should/could have won in 5. I also recall you claiming the leafs were going to lose game 7 after being up 3 – 2 in the series still and already talking about the trades needed. You were wrong about it once again. Also you were wrong about the habs too…I’ve lost count how often you’re wrong.

I do recall you talking a lot about 5 v 5 being the difference maker but the leafs were better and the only wins ottawa had were on the backs of special teams (back to back shorties) so you were wrong about any of that. Anyway talk to you after they win the series kiddo.

Oh good, HB came to HHS – Whippest

Don’t worry. Leafs will win game 5 and those people will run away with their tails between their legs as per their usual

Maybe take your own advice and read what I wrote. You clearly want to make it known their OT goal was a fluke while ignoring that most of the Leafs Game 3 goals were also flukes.

You want to pretend the Leafs luck is actually because they’re good but won’t give the same credit to Florida for it. That’s textbook moving the goal posts and blatant homerism.

I just came to laugh at the “blatant homerism” because who gives a shit? Isn’t that what a fan is supposed to be? A “homer” for their team? I guess in your world you gotta be negative so you can show how “hockey smart” you are but all your takes so far have been wrong this playoffs going back to the first round.

Is it just me or does like most leaf fans give themselves general anxiety over something we as fans have zero control over?

Dude the Panthers won 1 game at home in a flukely as hell bounce off a Leaf D man – a game the Leafs easily could have won.

They won last night where the Leafs looked terrible and it was a 2-0 win with a late 2nd goal. Leafs had 2 breakaways and Matthews had a grade A chance he shot right into Bob’s glove that Cuthbert blew his load on like it was some incredible save lol.

If that’s the best the Panthers have I am fine with the fact the are coming back to Toronto with a 2-2 split and it’s now a best 2 of 3 and we have home ice. – Cushy

    Yup I agree

    Leafs in 6!

As many predicted, tough series. Not surprising that it ended up here at 2 a piece. Leafs are 4 – 1 at home so far this playoffs

John Schneider must have pictures of the Rogers family with the crew of Epstein Island. How does he keep his job? He’s always taking out pitchers, one pitch too late, after they’ve torpedoed another victory. Prince

I would guess he does whatever Shatkins wants them to do so until they no longer need their puppet he can stay there. He will take a fall when Shatkins need to keep their job by the end of the month.

The goaltending, the D group, and the bottom six forward group were all largely hot trash during Dubas’ tenure. All of those components are vitally important to winning playoff hockey. He simply was not able to effectively round out his roster. Tree has been able to address these areas.

Keefe is an X’s and O’s coach obsessive with details but whose lack of composure in difficult moments was palpable which bled into the team. Berube’s coaching style is simple and direct and he is clearly had a positive impact on the keeping the team more composed and focused. – Fifty

All over? The D core, starting goalie, attitude and bottom 6 have pretty much all changed. Leafs werent going anywhere with him and his boy Keefe. In fact, I believe Dubas would have most likely traded willy for E Karlsson had he been allowed to stick around (that was the rumour). I liked Dubas, he made some good trades, but this years leafs success has nothing to do with him.
Now the leafs could still choke it away, but they look like a much different team – Fake

I’ll address both of you in a single post.

    1. Funny how Tree keeps getting praise for filling out the roster but he didn’t need to trade one of the ‘core 4’ as both of you claimed he would HAVE to do to fix the defense. Funny how a Dubas trade and a free agent signing by Tree really helped solidify arguably the leagues best shut down pair.

    2. What do you mean Tree did all the work? Tree didn’t draft a single player on the team and the youngest two guys contributing consistently are Knies (on the top line) and Woll who was excellent during the season and Stoly was only really anointed the starting goalie in the last couple weeks. Let’s not act like Tree made some brilliant move here.

    3. Fairly certain Nylander was traded by Fifty like a 100 times in the past couple off seasons as “the core 4 would never work!” or so I was told. Also Marner but both Dubas and Tree have stuck to the “core 4” and are seeing results.

    4. We all agree on Keefe though. He needs some more seasoning in the NHL as a coach if he wants to see real success.

    5. Dubas doesn’t go without his warts but let’s not act like he didn’t do anything to the current line up. If it was upto you two the core 4 wouldn’t be here and neither would Carlo or Laughton because if I recall it was said “don’t trade any firsts until they prove they deserve it” or was it “JT takes up too much cap this year to do anything ‘major’ so just run out the season and REALLY go for it next year.”

    6. Leafs still have to get past the Panthers but they’ve shown they are certainly different and a large part of that is on Berube and his D core. OEL/Carlo/Tanev are all excellent grabs by Tree.

I don’t know. And I mean that literally – not as a passive comment. I just don’t. Keefe’s system was excellent for puck possession but terrible for the risk management associated. Berube’s system is far less risky but also more boring in some ways – and yet in the playoffs Berube’s system scores more, allows less and still looks questionable all too often!

Dubas definitely influenced this lineup, but Rielly was a Burke pick, Nylander was a Nonis pick, Marner and Matthews were Lamiorello picks.

Dubas did bring in, or draft, Holmberg, Robertson, Knies, McMann, Jarnkrok, Kampf, Domi, McCabe, Benoit and Woll.

Treliving in one year has brought in Stolarz, Pacioretty, Carlo, OEL, Tanev, Lorentz and Laughton.

Berube has brought in a bit more of a “get it done” attitude, I think.- The Punkiest Monkey”

We both agree on what Keefe brought but honestly? It always felt he got out coached in the playoffs. Played around with line ups too much. I guarantee after the game 5 loss in the first round he’d have swapped some guys out whereas Berube knew Patches was the guy. Has been against Florida too! Definitely makes me realize Berube has say in who Tree brought in (like Patches and maybe others)

Dubas simply has his fingerprints on the team as it is. I find a lot of teams that have success in the playoffs after firing their GM usually has the previous GMs fingerprints all over it. They just couldn’t figure out how to get over the hump. Not saying the leafs have done that quite yet but they certainly look different.
