The Leafs are in a great spot to tank out and get the fifth overall pick.
But, of course, Florida is going to tank better and bump us up to 6th. Florida and Boston simply own us, there is no fighting it.

Not really interested in Armstrong….leafs stealing GM’s from other teams hasnt really worked out for them. Plus Im not sure Armstrong would want a full rebuild if they needed one in a year or so.Maybe Pridham as GM? Armstrong as President if they are so intent on looking at Armstrong
But Berube has to go.I have to think Berube is gone. I would love to see them grab Cassidy, but they’ll almost certainly let a new GM make that decision… and by the time they hire a new GM, I expect Cassidy will be signed elsewhere.
Just listened to Pelleys presser. Leafs beginning a comprehensive search for a new GM, looking to “retool” around “foundational pieces” rather than rebuild, using a “data-centred analytics approach”
You know what other comprehensive search is about to take place? Me looking for a new fucking hockey team to cheer for.
They might as well have just admitted that the team will continue its slow and torturous death spiral.
Why all the doom and gloom. When Matthews returns from the Olympics the Leafs will have a solid 2nd line checking center to start the rebuild.
For the first time since he was drafted, I actually felt sorry for Matthews.
The team is Matthews and a bunch of guys named Mo at this point.I don’t think you can make a case for anything other than a firesale, including Matthews. No matter how good he is, they won’t be able to assemble an appropriate supporting cast before he is at the tail end of his career. I have to believe he will ask to be moved.

Yup, 4 games in 6 nights and 5 of 8 points, against 3 playoff teams and 2 division leaders. That’s a good road trip.

That was the best thing I have seen from the Leafs in a long time. Matthews first few years, goals like that were regular for him. I actually thought he had the best shot I had ever seen. It has been a long while since he looked like that guy. That shot was a laser.
